Still totting up my winnings. Many fun bets on the big fields. Few winners. But when you have decent bets on bow echo, map of stars, Scandinavia and causeway you cannot fail but to win well. A pleasing royal meeting. And before you start squawking bubbles ALL my 35 selections are on my thread well in advance. We know you don't need telling as you must have looked at it several times each day. Obviously.

Just two winners - Causeway 13/8 & Double Rush 13/2, and a couple of decent places with Brilliant Star and Jamestown, both at 40/1. Other than that pretty much a load of garbage. Low points - Jakarjaro (50/1) losing four places inside the final furlong; Cannes (12/1) getting a nothing ride and running no race whatsoever; Balantina (16/1) presumably being unfit and Murphy also doing wonders to keep Glyfada (10/1) out of the four. Topped it off by backing three of Marquand's today - out wide and rode Santorini Star into the ground. A ludicrous ride from the grinning one. Not much better with a scenic trip on Princling, but of course he wins on a 25/1 shot so hey, why worry about riding like an idiot in the other races.
Not a massive loss, but I don't think I have enjoyed a Royal Ascot less than this one. Enough to prompt me to say that's it for the flat season. This is supposed to be the pinnacle, but there is just too much luck involved. People might point to the favourites that won, but several fell over the line, others were obviously insider gambles, and of course many didn't win.

The heat did for me, I think. In my active pro days, I'd keep my cue in the rack when the mercury rose. I'm playing for plausible mid-market upsets, a bit like Pricewise if you will. Very hot weather affects, I am sure, many horses, so that either the favourite wins or it is a complete lottery. Neither is any good to me. Same in the mud.

Earth Shot 9/2,Alobayaah 7/2, Bacio 12/1, Orthodox 9/1 but still had my worst Ascot for many a year and down on the week about £200. My biggest winner would have been Rayevka £25 at 14s after she won in France also Friendly Soul would have made a big difference, thought the Wokingham was between the two Favs but went with Haggas instead of Balding.
