Elon Musk has become the first trillionaire in history after his SpaceX business floated on the stock market in New York.

The world’s richest man’s net worth soared above the $1tn mark (£860bn) as shares in his rocket business surged by 20pc in initial trading after the company went public on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

Mr Musk has a stake of around 43pc in the rocket venture, which was valued at $2.1tn (£1.8tn) as markets opened, on top of his shares in Tesla and his other start-ups.

Maybe he'll stop interfering in UK politics and concentrate on getting his base on Mars built.

Technically interfering or just exercising his right to free speech ?

The man is a money-making machine. He's made a lot of his cronies and associates very wealthy indeed. He was also very lucky esp with Tesla. It'd have been taken away from him in the very late stages just prior to production; the funders believed and stuck by him. It could so easily have gone belly-up.

His selective intrusion into British politics is understandable given the closeness of him and the present regime in the USA. Has Musk any investment in South Asia?

At one stage yesterday his wealth was more than the GDP of Poland. Even now many multiples of some of the former USSR countries. A human being can be worth more than the entire annual output of a country in The EU. It's truly incredible and remarkable.

I thought you meant Microsoft, an AI behemoth or Amazon might take an interest in an alliance. A diversification for either. Tesla, to me, may be unlikely. Even though Tesla is filthy cash rich its shareholders might baulk at the enormous expense needed for each space trip. But, what do I know?

Anything with Mr Musk is possible. The man spent $44bn buying Twitter; the shareholders of the latter could not believe their luck when Mr Musk came calling.

Interesting fact:

If you were given $1,000 for every minute that has passed since the birth of Christ (ie since the year zero), you still wouldn't be worth as much as Elon Musk...........................

Mr Musk is one freak. He might be controversial in politics nevertheless, a money-making machine; his mind works differently and is probably unique. The backers of his ventures have been laughing all the way to their banks on numerous occasions.

I wonder if the Sage of Omaha was ever a cohort in any of his investments - not that he needed it. He was an early investor in BYD.
