I agree, but for some it's a game of how to balance enough of the "load-yourself" stuff like roast spuds, on the plate

Horatio, good tip
I saw an advert once, might have been a spoof, where you could buy this carvery special one-visit tree thing...it was made of plastic, with a big round base that sat on the plate, with all branches coming off of it, each with a different bowl to put your grub in, about a foot tall...!!!

I'd have liked to see their faces if you took that up to the carvery counter...

any chance of enlightenment passed you by unrecognised and unmolested horatia

a toby is garish and tastelessy furnished, serves carp beer and filthy wine and is populated by yahoos with zero sense of discernment or discrimination

full of people wearing trainers and covered in tribal markings

I would suggest Toby can't be as bad as Greene King pubs.
The food is invariably luke warm and their Pale ale, 3.4% ffs, is awful as well.
I Only go when forced, but it's too often. Holmfield Arms, Wakefield is the one.

my palate is far from refined, being mostly proletarian in its culinary affections, and im more of a gourmand

those in training shoes rarely look as though they have ever done any. they are to be worn for playing sport, or should be

greene king not my cup of sherbet but eminently preferable to tobymugs

A 3.4 beer is simply not fit for purpose imo. Truly horrible.

Could not agree more.

A good proper Ale or Beer is 4.5% plus....over 5% to my own taste

Nearly a tenner for a pint of that and a J2O, Horatio.
I can get a quality pint of cask ale for less than 2 quid in Batley.

To clarify then you have a extensive appetite who likes plenty of working class food....

Yet you call out a Caverey?

May I suggest you are a wannabe. Feel free to come back to me whilst I eat me Roast Dinner....albeit wearing me best Oxfords
