I wouldn't underestimate how professional types help each other.
I've mentioned Ben Needham, his mother was a nobody and nobody helped
her much. I don't think he was kidnapped either, another accident imo.

Parents being directly or indirectly responsible for her disappearance is 1.01.
Anyone who has bothered to do even basic research into the case knows this.
Sniffer dogs alerting to cadaver in the apartment, the hired car etc.
The fact that statistically missing children or child abuse is overwhelmingly committed by a family member.
The implausiblety of the abduction and obvious staging.
Their general demeanour and unwillingness to cooperate with the police investigators.

Someone produced an in-depth 4-part documentary on the McCann case, highly watchable and very interesting, examining such things as the contradictions in the statements of the 'Tapas' group and the extraordinary involvement of high-level politicians right from the outset. It was an impressive piece of work for a one-man band.
The fella's name is now taboo so Rico daren't mention it in case he's accused of being a conspiracy nutjob and I daren't mention it in case madtolo self-combusts!

What I find strange, is the people on this thread and elsewhere, calling her 'maddie', her name was Madeline, shortening her name like that as if you knew her personally is weird and tells me you've invested way too much time caring about this case.
The fact that the apartment was on the ground floor on the periphery of the hotel complex makes it a possibility that it was someone who broke in and had a quick getaway.
But I've no idea, as no body has ever been found, which means everything else is just circumstantial, even the two dogs barking to detect blood and cadavers, there was never any DNA matches in the quantities needed to link to Madeleine. It was a rented apartment, people came and went all the time, every week, month and year.
Gerry seems like an odd guy which hasn't helped himself, but what also emerged after that case, was just how common place pa£do groups are over there and how many kids go missing.
If it was accidental death and they covered it up, what are the chances of managing to hide her dead body in an area you are not familiar with with no acres of woods around to bury her unseen, and nobody ever managing to find her. Makes no sense.

What happened to the little girl was extremely sad. The errors and the lack of judgement had been underestimated by her parents which caused her disappearance. This can never be overcome by her parents for as long as they live.
Notwithstanding, until her fate or whereabouts she might be I do not think the media is helping by constantly rehashing and reminding the public of a sad event through human (parents) negligence.
