What I find strange, is the people on this thread and elsewhere, calling her 'maddie', her name was Madeline, shortening her name like that as if you knew her personally is weird and tells me you've invested way too much time caring about this case.
The fact that the apartment was on the ground floor on the periphery of the hotel complex makes it a possibility that it was someone who broke in and had a quick getaway. But I've no idea, as no body has ever been found, which means everything else is just circumstantial, even the two dogs barking to detect blood and cadavers, there was never any DNA matches in the quantities needed to link to Madeleine. It was a rented apartment, people came and went all the time, every week, month and year. Gerry seems like an odd guy which hasn't helped himself, but what also emerged after that case, was just how common place pa£do groups are over there and how many kids go missing. If it was accidental death and they covered it up, what are the chances of managing to hide her dead body in an area you are not familiar with with no acres of woods around to bury her unseen, and nobody ever managing to find her. Makes no sense. The human brain always wants closure, and pinning it on the parents as they have nothing else to go on, is just the easy and most satisfying thing to do. |

I doubt it, if there was owt new we'd have heard about it.
My guess is that everyone involved wants it to go away, hence the push to find the German fellah guilty and close it down. |

Dr. David Payne, a friend of the McCanns and part of the "Tapas 7" holiday group, admitted to bathing children from the group during the 2007 Portugal holiday.Evidence and statements given during the police investigation indicate the following:The Group's Routine: During the holiday at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, the group of friends frequently socialized and helped care for each other's children.Payne's Actions: It emerged in witness testimonies that Dr. Payne bathed several children from the other families during the trip.

Responding to lunchtime Susquaa question, she became Maddie because Madeleine wouldn't fit in a headline. Margaret Thatcher was the same. No-one called her Maggie. Fergie, Andy, Kate the list goes on.
We had this before and I don't remember an answer - what was an MI6 employee doing in the enquiry? Perhaps we could be enlightened. |

Evidence of the direct involvement of MI5, MI6 and other branches of government security services in the Madeleine McCann case
This is an attempt to put together a short summary of what is known about the direct involvement of MI5, MI6 and other branches of government security services in the Madeleine McCann case. It is made following press reports this week [NOTE - this was in 2016] about Goncalo Amaral’s recent references to the continuing involvement of MI5 in the Madeleine McCann case. It is not meant to be comprehensive, it is just at this stage a series of notes about the involvement of the British security services in the case. I hope others will add to them. It does not cover other forms of government assistance to the McCanns which we know includes: The heavy early involvement of the British ambassador and consul in Portugal The appointment of Clarence Mitchell, then head of the government’s 40-strong Media Monitoring Unit, to manage the reputation of the McCanns and control publicity on the case from the first month right up until today The involvement of the former Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) in seeking photographs direct from the public and then, through Jim Gamble, actively assisting the McCann campaign on several occasions Intervention with the Border Agency, allowing the McCanns to avoid going through customs control The personal intervention of Gordon Brown in the case, first as Chancellor of the Exchequer and then as Prime Minister, in seeking to influence the Portuguese authorities to (a) treat the McCanns as genuine victiuns of an abduction and (b) to dismiss Goncalo Amaral, which the Portuguese authorities did do on 2 October Meetings by successive Home Secretaries with the McCanns Directing the Metropolitan Police to set up Operation Grange. |
