What does he get as remuneration for being a JP's coat-tail hanger?

I was his biggest fan when he was riding...he basically got me into racing around 1998 when winning all those races in the David Johnson silks. But to say his punditry leaves a lot to be desired would be an understatement of gargantuan proportions.

For whatever reason I've never backed any of his triumphs in the Grand National or any of the big races in March at Cheltenham. Francome, Dunwoody and Smith-Eccles were my NH jockeys and one in Ireland whose name escapes me at the moment.

Who need the anti's when you've got him! Andrew Cooper must want to punch him in the face. Whitbread on firmish ground since the beginning of time. Good to firm as stated all week, what a clown.

I think he ought to have been banned from tv. He's devoid of charisma and personality; finds it difficult to string a proper English sentence together; poor tipster; bookie / fobt promoter; not photogenic on tv.
A good jockey for some, but as a tv presenter not even Sunday league. ITV, bin him!

Agree Impossible, I’m fed up with his line that he always says and he’s clearly milking it.
Needs to go away and never come back, re watch his rach on Quantative easing at the Cheltenham Festival when fancied.

I was there today. Always check the course as I walk across from the station , both far side and final furlong. Very very little good ground there in my view. The problem lies in the flat card the day b4. Too much water = slop for good horses. No good. Too little = today. The answer is blindingly obvious. Keep the jump card where it is. Water. Then run the flat card on the Sunday with NO watering at all from Friday onwards.

Henderson said of his decision not to run Jonbon: “He’s a hero to everyone, that’s why he’s having a walk around in the paddock so people can see him. “You can’t be risking him, it’s quick. Flat racing yesterday does not help, I have to say.”
Hendo moaning about the flat racing taken place, NH season goes on for too long anyway these days and these rubbish Grade 2 races just need binning

Why on earth do senior producers (those at the very top, above individual programme level) persist in thinking that former sportsmen/ women will make good TV presenters when they retire? ITV racing is the drivel that it is because of the production of the content. "Let's get AP to tell us his view on watering or Chumpman to give us his view on anything . Anything in fact to use up time and not concentrate on the boring horseracing. Whatever you do mention the betting as little as possible; we don't want to be accused of encouraging viewers to bet." Muppets, clowns and morons are in charge. I watch all my racing online via the bookies. It's got less delay in the pictures (30 seconds now on ITV) and more knowledgeable presenters. Are ITV hoping that AP is immune to criticism?

So Hendo thinks that when you withdraw a horse he should still be paraded for everyone to see? To quote the 20yo upper crust clueless female at Royal Ascot for the first time "Oh look! A horse!"

Donnie Trapman made a point at the opening of racing that there are two different tracks so it’s tosh to say that the going for both is the same.
I’m not saying he’s right or wrong on that, but then you have the likes of Thady saying it’s a lovely ground to start horses back on for Group 1 preps.
It’s always the same, confusion with the state of the going.

Glad that I’m not the only one who dislikes his halfhearted contribution to the coverage, just picking up a pay check and is very very dull with it!

In the last 10 years there has never been "firm" in the going description on Whitbread day. I know there was flat racing the previous day, and April has been incredibly dry, but if you want to see high quality grade 1 horses on the last day of the jumps season, there shouldn't be any firm in the going description. The withdrawals meant the last day was a damp squib on what is traditionally an exciting and memorable end to the jumps season.

Ground should be safe, loads of these runners are over the top by now, then we have Punchers so there’s no real competition, that’s the real damp Squib.
We want racing to be competitive not what it is with these, taking turns to land touches after Aintree and Chelts.
That AP could even mention , “punters losing out.” Is a complete joke from the puppet.

They knew the ground as they did for Fact To File when they arrived but it takes donks to declare it a non runner! Jokers!

It's easy to criticise British racing about lots but when it comes to ground there's plenty of Grade 1 races at Punchestown and Leopardstown that are run on fast ground. Just because they call it Yielding doesn't mean it is. Have a look at the race times for this meeting on day one last year

I’m not even dying that I think that he’d be competitive, horse was fit to run over short miles on Saturday and there’s a race over 2 miles today on ground that would suit, so run it or retire the spam fritter!

If racing against the likes of Eddie Stone is now his level then pull the plug and put him out to grass, they knew the going in the morning if not the day before at Sandown.
We punters don’t need the likes of , “and so he was or is” looking out for out concerns!
Another shat person like the London Mayor with Sir before his name!
Wooden top bore that he is!

Didn’t the good thing of the day fall when racing against BonJon before his win at Chelts?
Which caused doubt about him and helped the bookies horse go off odds on?!

I’d not be betting on these races, I’m pretty sure that it’s like in the trials, stablemates are running when not fit against another, over weight and it’s take turns to win to keep owners happy.
Barge pole stuff.
Without the presence of Gaelic there’s no race, it really is Mickey Mouse stuff.

You haven’t given a view if they missed a trick by not running BonJon yesterday after complaining like they did at Chelts about the ground and now you’re trying to puck me apart?

Did he tip it each way? I’ve not said he put punters away but he didn’t point them (those who don’t know racing) in the right direction did he?
With Grangeclear West unseating at the first and Nick Rocket being a non runner did Iroko do anything special? He was behind those two last year and might well have been this year.

BonJon was fit to run over 2 miles or just short of on Saturday, it’s all above
Yet he didn’t make the trip a few days later over a similar trip when supposedly fit and ready to go Penzance.
The owner chose to run one (the unrealisable Bookies horse) & in the National he ran loads, they missed out on place money yesterday at least as said last night.
Temps had fallen at Sandown earlier this year. You can’t win if you’re not in and this is the Horse that Nicky proudly says has never finished out of the first two.

JP does not just bet for himself. He does that for those close to him too.
Unless fate intervenes the winner of the 2026 National whose name escapes me at the moment will definitely run regardless of weight. The record of Red Rum is too tasty not to try and emulate.
But, there's a mega difference between the Nationals that Red Rum won and the 2025 and 2026 victor. They are like "chalk and cheese", I'd say.

The point is, the horse is getting on in years and was ready to go but they missed an opportunity.
