I was his biggest fan when he was riding...he basically got me into racing around 1998 when winning all those races in the David Johnson silks.
But to say his punditry leaves a lot to be desired would be an understatement of gargantuan proportions. |

For whatever reason I've never backed any of his triumphs in the Grand National or any of the big races in March at Cheltenham. Francome, Dunwoody and Smith-Eccles were my NH jockeys and one in Ireland whose name escapes me at the moment.

I think he ought to have been banned from tv. He's devoid of charisma and personality; finds it difficult to string a proper English sentence together; poor tipster; bookie / fobt promoter; not photogenic on tv.

I was there today. Always check the course as I walk across from the station , both far side and final furlong. Very very little good ground there in my view. The problem lies in the flat card the day b4. Too much water = slop for good horses. No good. Too little = today. The answer is blindingly obvious. Keep the jump card where it is. Water. Then run the flat card on the Sunday with NO watering at all from Friday onwards.

Why on earth do senior producers (those at the very top, above individual programme level) persist in thinking that former sportsmen/ women will make good TV presenters when they retire? ITV racing is the drivel that it is because of the production of the content. "Let's get AP to tell us his view on watering or Chumpman to give us his view on anything . Anything in fact to use up time and not concentrate on the boring horseracing. Whatever you do mention the betting as little as possible; we don't want to be accused of encouraging viewers to bet." Muppets, clowns and morons are in charge. I watch all my racing online via the bookies. It's got less delay in the pictures (30 seconds now on ITV) and more knowledgeable presenters. Are ITV hoping that AP is immune to criticism?

Donnie Trapman made a point at the opening of racing that there are two different tracks so it’s tosh to say that the going for both is the same. I’m not saying he’s right or wrong on that, but then you have the likes of Thady saying it’s a lovely ground to start horses back on for Group 1 preps. It’s always the same, confusion with the state of the going. |

In the last 10 years there has never been "firm" in the going description on Whitbread day.
I know there was flat racing the previous day, and April has been incredibly dry, but if you want to see high quality grade 1 horses on the last day of the jumps season, there shouldn't be any firm in the going description. The withdrawals meant the last day was a damp squib on what is traditionally an exciting and memorable end to the jumps season. |

Ground should be safe, loads of these runners are over the top by now, then we have Punchers so there’s no real competition, that’s the real damp Squib.
We want racing to be competitive not what it is with these, taking turns to land touches after Aintree and Chelts. That AP could even mention , “punters losing out.” Is a complete joke from the puppet. “When you have that many horses coming out, the punters are losing out” - Sir AP McCoy criticises Sandown ground They knew the ground as they did for Fact To File when they arrived but it takes donks to declare it a non runner! It's easy to criticise British racing about lots but when it comes to ground there's plenty of Grade 1 races at Punchestown and Leopardstown that are run on fast ground. Just because they call it Yielding doesn't mean it is. Have a look at the race times for this meeting on day one last year

I’m not even dying that I think that he’d be competitive, horse was fit to run over short miles on Saturday and there’s a race over 2 miles today on ground that would suit, so run it or retire the spam fritter!
