Those ahead of him in the betting are proven Group race performers so its no surprise to see them shorter in the market than CH. This is how the game works, proven over promising. Its up to the punter to decide if the 'promising' type can improve to the level of the 'proven' type.

The cynic in me might suggest they put the 7s and 8s up with a view of cutting him to 3/1 very quickly. They'll still take plenty at that price even though he's only about 50/50 to line up

A bookie inspired false gamble? Anyone backing him now does so at anti post rules and will lose their money if a non runner! He is far from being a 100% starter in the race at this time, the ground is far too fast.
Should CH get to the race then I'm sure he will go off bigger than his current price?

He's the lowest rated of the 10 declared...a full stone off the top-rated trio and obviously has a lot to do so perhaps the easier option in graduating to the grade (also a Group 3) would be the 10f Alleged Stakes the day after on forecast soft ground, as although the 12f at Newbury would be more suitable, yesterday's description of good to firm would still be a concern, despite the word 'firm' now having been dropped.

This is the problem. Doesn't want to run him over hurdles again because his jumping has gone to pot and can't race him on the flat (turf) because the ground will either be too quick or too heavy. It's all become a bit of farce.

He's been entered for the Irish St Leger. Absolutely delusional and a waste of money. The fee could have gone to a food bank. But, Hendo has form; he ran the horse in Ireland post repeated falls, but not when the horse was invincible over hurdles.
Hendo has entered him for the Irish St Leger against possibles Forever Young, Al Riffa, Al Qareem, Dubai Honour, Illinois, Scandinavia, Minnie Hauk, etc. Constitution Hill chickened out in the John Porter against Al Aasy, Convergent, etc.
The journo has allocated an entire page to try and spin this farcical trash. A degeneration of journos at the Racing Post.

Nether you nor I own the horse. We are therefore, not entitled (a feeling that many express on here)to tell connections what to do with their horse. He who pays the piper,Dickster. I have no idea what the horse will achieve on the Flat but will watch with interest

uptheirons,,,,yes. of course, none of us own the horse. BUT, every day after every race punters express their views about how horses were ridden, whether they should have ran in the race, whether their trainers 'had them ready' etc etc etc. And without punters owners would have greatly reduced prize money to run for.
So, racehorses are like football teams - to some degree they are public property. Thus people on here are perfectly entitled to express an opinion about the path C Hill follows.
For whatever reason, you appear to want to defend Henderson who, sad to say, to me seems to have made a hash of C Hill's later career.
The Irish Leger is sometimes a glorofied handicap but, even so, I still doubt whether C Hill will improve enough aged 9 to win that race from where he is currently rated at just over 100.
At Ripon yesterday I was talking to another on-course punter and the view among the very few of us that are left is that Henderson has done a poor job with the horse since his jumping troubles began.
The general view is that Henderson either needs to run the horse a bit more or retire it. Yes, summer going is not ideal for the animal but Henderson has found a lot of reasons NOT to run for over 2 years now (exce;t for two mickey-mouse flat wins).
OK, perhaps that is fair enough (and he certainly knows better than I do about training horses) but he MUST start managing expectations over the animal. He will not even get into a Melbourne Cup, let alone win it.
Nor will he win a Group Race on the flat unless he lucks out in a small field one on heavy going in the autumn - and then he would still be no good thing.
I fear Hendeerson and his owner cannot rid themselves of thinking about how the horse USED TO BE.
He was brilliant for a while but, I tell you what, Night Nurse for one, would surely have put him away with little bother.
Until Henderson takes a more realistic position the horse will remain in this sad situation of so many expecting a reproduction of a brilliancnce that was pretty short-lived and has very probably been lost now.
The one thing that man or beat cannot avoid is how age unravels all of us eventually!!

The Knight People are entitled to their opinions, mine for what its worth is that CH has been very unlucky from being a hurdler who at his prime would of put Night Nurse to bed fairly easily.A horse that is dependent on a certain type of going and therefore does not suit the normal UK summer conditions. Those who take the easy road and criticise NJH are entitled to their opinion as much mistaken they maybe. How would they with the superior knowledge have treated and indeed raced the horse ? I agree age catches up with every living thing and indeed he will do well to win any high class race unless everything falls in place for him.
As one who backed CH in ALL his early and successful races I have an affection for this once great racehorse. Also have the greatest respect for his owner and trainer and indeed the lad who looks after him every day..Would it bother me if he never ran again ? No.

never understood why people make hypothetical comparisons..a complete and utter waste of typing.

Because hypothetical match-ups are fun, because nostalgia is fun. And surely the idea of form, handicap ratings and speed figures and sectionals and all the rest is that they do facilitate comparisons between horses who have never met.
Which is handy because if you think about it, this happens in numerous races every single day.
