Not too bad then after Jordans, perhaps the worst ride from a top level jockey in a top race in decades. When he claimed he didn't watch a lot of racing before becoming a jockey, I didn't believe him. Evidently he has not watched too many Aintree grand nationals though!

He said today that he should have held on longer, but absolutely no guarantee, if he had held on for longer, that he would have done any better than third. It would have just meant more horses contending for the places at a later stage.

Of course the counter factual can't be proven. However horses don't win looping the field a mile out, and going clear. Never mind the grand national and the notorious extended run in. Either total brain fade in the moment, or he genuinely had no idea how best to ride the race. The fact he still stayed on for third suggests he was comfortably the best horse in the race, but obviously it can never be proven beyond doubt.
