The National now, as there's nothing Grand about it anymore, when you get 10/15 horses in with a chance at the last in what was the supreme test of a horses jumping and stamina, i'm afraid it isn't grand anymore. When Manifesto ran in the race year after year he had to jump huge fences including a brick wall, now a poor jumper can get round knocking the loose brush of the top of the fences. Nothing like what this great race once was.
Think there were a lot fewer casualties when the fences were bigger because you had to be a good jumper to qualify, now they go much too fast and horses get used to smashing through the brush topping and topple over.
