The National now, as there's nothing Grand about it anymore, when you get 10/15 horses in with a chance at the last in what was the supreme test of a horses jumping and stamina, i'm afraid it isn't grand anymore.
When Manifesto ran in the race year after year he had to jump huge fences including a brick wall, now a poor jumper can get round knocking the loose brush of the top of the fences. Nothing like what this great race once was.

Think there were a lot fewer casualties when the fences were bigger because you had to be a good jumper to qualify, now they go much too fast and horses get used to smashing through the brush topping and topple over.

Sort of sums up what is happening in the country overall ,definitely not grand anymore.

Also seems to me the regular course takes more jumping than the national course
