Dreadful scenes, dreadful performance from the so-called not pulling the horse on the run in…..

The individual pulls the poor horse up straight away the result is the same it dies due to the broken back….

Adrenaline and hard riding got it over the winning line…

All winnings should go to horse welfare….

Millions of beedy eyes on the big stage with one subject of conversation…..

Dreadful scenes on the motorway today, when will it stop!! Ban driving now to save lives!!!!

In 2024, there were approximately 1,602 road deaths in the UK, marking a slight increase from the previous year. This figure represents a 1% increase compared to 2023, although it is the lowest recorded since the COVID-19 pandemic. The statistics indicate a complex trend in road safety, with fatalities rising among motorcyclists and a notable increase in pedestrian deaths.

Richard Hoiles's very words on the run-in:

"not moving great", and his commentary nails it, the hesitation after the line as he senses something has gone badly wrong..."may be a pyrrhic victory". It's on this TC thread:

Well,here is one,Grassgow.
Unless Townsend had eyes up his chuffer he could not know that the winner had done the splits upon landing and his claim that the winner kept o until the line cannot be faulted.
Go to bed,you obsessive moron.

George, I think most racewatchers knew the horse had gone wrong in some way directly after the stumble, what i also think is the horse carried on as it would have done with a clean jump.
like loper I was comparing his action to the second horse and they were almost identical.

Its one of those that can be interpreted in many different ways, just a very sad sight to see tbh.

GC, a vet explains here what might have gone wrong, and on the thread he defends Townend.

If a fracture of the spine or other structure occurred due to the fault at the final fence, which remained small and stable at gallop but became displaced/worsened when transitioning to a trot.

* Because of the actions of the jockey on the run in.

How many races has James Given ridden in?
If none then we can't rely on his "opinion".

How many races has Richard Hoiles watched/commentated on?
His commentary yesterday confirmed what anyone with decent eyesight, a knowledge of the sport and horses, and no vested interest in the race, could plainly see.

If someone had the cojones they should simply ask Townend the following:
"Why did you pull up Fabiolo in the 2024 Champion chase but not Gold Dancer yesterday, when they had made identical mistakes?"
Although, to be honest, I suppose the answer is obvious.

Out of interest how many similar mistakes have we all seen this week (in all racing  other just Aintree) and no broken back, no pull up etc/ - 4,5,, 10 I can't remember?
A horse can be injured as much by a stone (or a pigeon!) on the ground than by a fence s lets ban stones and pigeons from being near horses.

I believe it was Eddie O'Leary who was quoted as saying the horse had broken its back, and presumably he was relaying what they had been told by the vets who had examined the horse prior to being euthanized.

Willie Mullins has been quoted as saying they won't know exactly what the injury was until a post-mortem has been carried out.
