It seems to me that some people on here hate horse racing and hate everybody connected with it . In which case why are they on this forum ?
Just to have a sanctimonious whinge ? |

This is in the same category as those who reckon that Walsh purposely jumped off Annie Power.
I suppose it boild down to if you think that Towenend, after realizing that the horse had gone wrong decided to ignore it and risk a catasrophic injury, and scene on the run in, putting himself at maximum risk of injury, all on the eve of perhaps the biggest race on the planet. I'm out on that theory. |

After the stewards enquiry, Paul Townend said the horse felt ok running straight to the line, only when slowing to a canter and trot did he not feel right and dismounted. the Vet agreed and explanation noted.

A horse made a catastrophic mistake at the final fence, broke its back and within minutes had to be euthanised...But had been sound on the run-in?
Well it must be true because... After reviewing the footage, The Director of Equine, Safety, and Welfare explained that GOLD DANCER (FR)’s action was typical of a 3-mile chaser in the final stages of a race and supported the evidence of Townend. So let me get this straight, he watched a replay of the finish and concluded that is how a horse moves at the end of a three-mile chase after breaking its back? Righty-ho. |

To Putin, I say this: we see you, we see your activity over our underwater infrastructure. You should know that any attempt to damage it will not be tolerated and would have serious consequences. ![]() Anymore creditable quotes to share?! ![]() |

By:
There is obvious a degree of nuance about it, because try as some might and want to state and underline in big bold letters that the horse made a catastrophic mistake and broke its back, the truth of the matter is that after making that catastrophic mistake resulting in a broken back, the horse was able to run another furlong to the line and do so without an obvious look of injury to it.

Imo the horse did look injured, but was running on adrenaline, as John Gosden explained after the death of Rewilding, "nature often anesthetizes horses in such instances".

Im not sure which race you were watching colonel, ive watched it 3 times from 3 out and Townend never once moved his hands from Gold Dancers neck until the run in.
Did you watch the race on RTV or something? Some youtube footage is from the other side. I watched it on ITV and he was slapping f uck out of it |

So tell why Hoiles said that it looked wrong behind 100 yards out live? Even discussed with Ruby what might have been wrong, pelvis he said, live on ITV whilst jockey bummed it and gave it thrashes |

By:
Whatever we the 'converted' think, it's been shown on the national news and reported as the horse breaking its back at the final fence but being continued on, then having to be put down.

a broken back is not a snapped spine..it can be a loose term for a break/crack in a vertabrae.

By:
The horse clearly lost its action. I thought it was injured. But I'm am not an expert and if the completely impartial vet says there was nothing in the horse's action that would indicate that it was injured and that only when it slowed to a canter, its catastrophic injury revealed itself, then that must have been what happened.

Bert Trautmann 1956 Cup Final
Trautmann suffered a serious injury while diving at the feet of Birmingham City's Peter Murphy. Despite his injury, he continued to play, making crucial saves to preserve his team's 3–1 lead. His neck was noticeably crooked as he collected his winner's medal; three days later an X-ray revealed it to be broken. |
