What type of grade?! Sounds familiar, very familiar ![]() |

After the stewards enquiry, Paul Townend said the horse felt ok running straight to the line, only when slowing to a canter and trot did he not feel right and dismounted. the Vet agreed and explanation noted.

The only mistake I made was conversing with a Grade A Bullshatter like you. Did you mean Grade A? ![]() |

He's obviously shooting a line because he was beating the nag up McCoy style before the last fence.

Would that be the same vet wheeled out for damage limitation? Cant recall the last time a vet was so swift to appear in front of the cameras?

Agree Rico
It is remarkable how knowledgeable those who've never ridden more than an sofa's arm rest are about the racehorse and equine welfare. As for putting up the screens to pretend that a fatality hasn't happened, Ive yet to see a jockey dispatched behind a screen yet they always put one up for a stricken rider. |

Had it been okay and he had pulled it up, the reaction would have been.....
certainly not good on him for putting horse welfare first I bet. It certainly doesn't look good now but he made a decision based on what he felt, I'm sure he will will have many sleepless nights, regardless of being vindicated by the stewards and the vet. It's all over social media, so those worrying itv didn't give it enough coverage, you can be sure there is plenty on line |

Just pointing it out, he’s been banging on that the severely injured horse didn’t run away from the second.
As if that any excuse for what we all saw! Was the second closing, it’s a childish argument, the second had never done that distance before, judge the winners well being on the second and his first try at the trip! ![]() That’s nonsense! |

You are completely wrong. Before the last fence he slaps him a dozen times because the horse was finished so he beats it up around the head and neck to get it over the fence. That's when he's on the point of collapse. By the way, can't you f*cking spell 'you'? I understand where you're coming from , Rico. You're Mr Cynic in the Betting Shop. You know everything, and everything is the pound note. Nothing matters except that grimy bet slip in your hot little hand. It's understandable. But I don't understand why you have to twit people with a broader view. |

Race comment genuis
For SALVER the horse your argument rests on, In touch with leaders, left in third 4 out, some headway after 3 out, weakening when mistake last (op 7/2) In your race reading you’ve failed to note this! Horse knocked the rollok out of itself! Was it meant to close on the second? |

There was a choice here you either throw the book at Townend for riding out an injured horse, or you wheel out a BHA employee to back Townend. Racing wants to avoid negativity like the plague so it is absolutely no surprise what they have done. To the BHA employee the horse did not look injured after that error. I don't believe that. Decide for yourselves.

Im not sure which race you were watching colonel, ive watched it 3 times from 3 out and Townend never once moved his hands from Gold Dancers neck until the run in. |

going away from the horse in 3rd Who hit the fence
weakening when mistake last bound not to be closing on the second is it? You’ve hinted that the horse was injured after the line, so should the second have closed on him if it occurred then? The case is closed, what you say is contradictory and reasoning full of holes. |

Indeed, when was the last time a jockey needed the Director of Equine Regulation, Safety, and Welfare to hold his hand during a stewards' enquiry? An enquiry was held into the riding of the winner, GOLD DANCER (FR), ridden by P. Townend, from jumping the final fence up until rounding the bend towards the pull up area after which the gelding was immediately assessed by Veterinary Surgeons and subsequently euthanised on welfare grounds. Townend and the Director of Equine Regulation, Safety, and Welfare were both interviewed and shown recordings of the incident. Townend explained that GOLD DANCER (FR) had made a bad mistake at the last fence after which it had taken a stride or two for the gelding to gather himself before, in his opinion, running on in a straight line to the winning line where GOLD DANCER (FR) felt sound. Townend added that it was only until rounding the bend towards the pull up area that the gelding’s action changed when GOLD DANCER (FR) went from a canter to a trot after which he immediately dismounted from the gelding. After reviewing the footage, The Director of Equine, Safety, and Welfare explained that GOLD DANCER (FR)’s action was typical of a 3-mile chaser in the final stages of a race and supported the evidence of Townend. After hearing all of their evidence, the Stewards noted Townend’s explanation. |

By:
I can put this into a few words.
A horse made a catastrophic mistake at the final fence and within minutes had to be euthanised. But the horse was sound on the run-in? Righy-ho. |
