If we are working into the equation the ground he lost at the last we are going to have to give back to BDA the ground she lost at the third last in order to level the playing field. It wasn't strongly run that wouldn't have suited the front two but the thing with TNL that is being ignored despite a few pieces of evidence in the book is that we have seen that even after travelling well TNL does not change gear immediately, he was being tapped for toe in the FF when he came down, he outstayed his rivals in the Neptune last year and took long enough to get past Nemean Lion on trials day, so to think he would readily go by BDA who runs right through the line is contrary to what we've seen with the horse.
She lost no ground to The New Lion because for reasons only known to Skelton he still sat on the bridle behind her, should have made his move earlier or at the very least be making his move at that time and would have gained that ground she lost in the race and if as you suspect he takes time to quicken then why ride him like that, but she definitely lost no ground to him.
