I take the op's point .I'm sure for a whole lifetime we all pronounced the Ukrainian capital as KiEv with the emphasis on the e as in Edward ,then the war started and thenewsreaders decided we should pronounce it differently.Reminds me of the old West Ham stadium which we all knew as Upton Park ,then since it closed the media referred to it as the Boleyn ground ??? I never once heard it called that when it was open .And who decided that actresses had to be called actors ?? And why ???
100%. I went to Upon Park a handful of times over the years. It was always called that. I had never heard of the term 'Boleyn' as well until after West Ham left. Don't get me going on the bland term 'actor' either.
I'll raise you with 'batter' in cricket. Sod that. Always batsmen to me, always will be. Why should I have to change anything because some liberal type half my age thinks its 'outdated'?
