Senedd members voted to bring in the ban by 39 votes to 10, with two MSs abstaining. Under the legislation the earliest greyhound racing would be banned is April 2027 and the latest April 2030. There is only one track in Wales - Valley Greyhounds in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly county.

Not: "Wales bans greyhound racing"

But rather:

"Wales becomes the first UK nation to ban greyhound racing, will Scotland be next?"

The Dogs' Trust spokeswoman: hundreds of dogs die on the track each year

Vet on track: 0.03% mortality rate

My question to those who voted to ban it is this:

A sport that has been going for ages before you were even born, what makes you think it yours to take away?

Apparently there's going to be a legal challenge.

"Labradors and spaniels aren't killed in these numbers - greyhounds deserve the same life that every other dog deserves."

I'm guessing the obvious flaw in that statement is that many won't be given a life at all as the need to breed them declines.

I work in a vets in the North East of England and we have many trainers using our practice. I am not a medical person but I have only seen dogs that have been treated exceedingly well and are in beautiful condition.  Like everything there will be a small minority of people who aren't treating their dogs in the right way but I have not seen this. The trainers are passionate about racing and spend a lot of money on their dogs. I would happily take on a greyhound that has been in their care as know it has been treated better than most pets. The amount of paperwork that has to be completed when anything happens to a  greyhound stops any cruelty plus there is a vet at every race.

Wales’ First Minister has been sharply criticised for admitting that she hasn’t watched a shocking undercover S4C programme that revealed the reality of corridor care in north Wales hospitals.

On Monday (March 17), the Welsh language channel’s current affairs television show ‘Y Byd ar Bedwar’ exposed that almost 90,000 patients had been treated in corridors in Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board hospitals over the last three years.

Pheckin Welsh should start looking after Humans before worrying about dogs imo.

With all due respect, nobody on this planet can show their lifetime profit. You may ask why but you can bet with the books.online. on-course and personally I had three different 'books' I could get on with. This was 10% commission days. I was banned from two of them...
