They are counting the crowd in a different way this year as far as I know so the figures are not like for like.
They must be adding the satellite crowd in Benidorm to the total figure
Be interesting to see what's eventually published on the Horserace Betting Levy Board site (https://www.hblb.org.uk/attendance).
Won't be for a while though as "This enquiry allows you to view summary racing fixture attendance data collated by HBLB. HBLB does not independently verify the data, which is provided by racecourses. New data will be uploaded on the 15th of each month".
Attendance = Paying Public + Annual Members + Complimentary Badges
Where:
Paying Public includes
General - Individuals who have purchased a ticket from general sale.
Sponsors - Individuals listed as a sponsor (of any aspect of a fixture).
Corporate Hospitality - Individuals with tickets to entertain customers, employees etc.
Annual Membership includes
Attending members - actual member attendance of individuals who hold an annual membership to the specific racecourse in question.
Complimentary Badges include
Reciprocals - Individuals who have gained complimentary entry because of the reciprocal relationship between their membership institution/racecourse and the racecourse in question.
Owners and Trainers - Individuals who are registered owners or trainers.
Under 18s - Individuals under the age of 18.
Others - Individuals with RCA accreditation.

Crowd up and pretty much everyone who went said more lively as well. Yet the betfair forum has its perpetual need to moan - go on start the boring reminiscing about how crowds in the past of the exact same amount were much bigger and better.........
