IMO taxes are the most stupid points on voting choices. If you can afford it, it makes such little difference minor increases here and there. Tax is EVERYTHING as it is a disincentive. If you as a government want to stop something, you raise the cost of doing it.

So if they raise corp tax, there will be less business activity.

Economics 101 you'd have thought. If only we had a great example of Ireland having the lowest corp tax in europe and generating huge tax revenue.

But, of course, they do know. And it is deliberate :(

I meant to most voters moaning about Labour and 'taxes' it makes little difference. Same people who always mention striking minors, as though we still lived in that version. It's just brainwashed rubbish that works with many voters.

Indeed, that was the point I was making. People are so dumb now and unwilling to think for themselves, they were convinced that Truss threatening to reduce their taxes was a terrible thing. With corp tax it was ridiculously modest, simply reversing the planned increase. 'unfunded tax cuts' Cry

How many people do you think would be aware that the cost of government borrowing is higher now than it was in late 2022. 10% if you're lucky, imo.

Fortunately spring is round the Corner Dave , RE heating our houses

...........................................

Virtue signalling went to a new level at Elland road yesterday.
The game was stopped after 13 minutes so that Muslim players
could 'break Ramadan' with a drink on the touchline. They could have
taken a drink during the game, or started the game 15 minutes later,
or have a day off if religion is more important than career.
This pandering is ridiculous, and was roundly booed.

If you’re stuck there don’t get constipated! I once read a piece in the metro on the underground about an airport luggage handler bending over and passing wind loudly….
His fate was to be locked up for a week or so! All true.

If that's the case that is ridiculous I agree saddo.

Following the death of a Chinese national in Tehran, the Chinese authorities have advised its citizens in Iran to try to escape the country by land.

Iran is considered one of the world's most mountainous countries, with over half its land area covered by rugged mountain ranges and high terrain. The landscape is dominated by the Zagros Mountains in the west and the Alborz Mountains in the north, which surround a high, arid central plateau

Blimey.

They reckon the conflict will last a month, therefore the airspace will remain closed for a month….

Anyone care to take the risk with Iran watching for civilian aircraft in the skies…..

jimnast, when I saw read that above, it made me wonder if by land would be the only option for those stranded in Dubai IF the airports are to remain close for the foreseeable future, but how safe would that be?

The Chinese government operates with an "open" mind. Their advice to their citizens overseas could be tinged with disingenuity.

The Chinese government and the Indian government have been propping up the mad-Putin regime in the Ukraine war by profiting economically and financially buying mad-Putin's oil to help financed the war. The Chinese and Indian governments have little conscience inside and outside their respective countries as long as the policy serves their own needs.

Primal and self-interests are the key components regarding policies of the Chinese and Indian governments. The latter is trying to portray itself as a superpower and economic behemoth. But, in reality India is neither. India is a service-country (not a producer / manufacturer), but an assembler of foreign goods; the China is an avid producer of fake and cheap consumer goods.

Questions have to be asked here, with the build-up of American forces in the region, and some political analysts forecasting an attack on Iran was imminent, how ill-advised have some people been in going to the region?

I'm extremely surprised the wealthy countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, etc, have yet to have a Channel Tunnel equivalent escape route or alternative to air to vacate in testing time like the present. The Kuwaitis have precedent when the former President of Iraq Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

Why would anyone want to go to Dubai for a holiday? There's a distinct lack of history; foreign culture and foods; landmarks; etc. It's not a place renowned for its diversity either.

Nevertheless, I still feel for the "unfortunates" - not financially - who are stranded there courtesy of the USA and Israel military ammunition incursion into Iran. Let's hope it's only temporary and not prolonged.

Maybe try contacting the local people-smugglers. This group of people are usually extremely resourceful and "creative". They also have a long history in the field.
