Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
Report Cider February 22, 2026 11:31 AM GMT
A lot of talk from this character Keith but Starsports sacked my account off after a couple of winners.

I don't blame them as I wouldn't lay my bets, but no need for all the pretence and bullshine. They are only interested in laying losers or people who aren't price conscious that they can scalp.
Report formoftheace February 22, 2026 11:38 AM GMT
Luck is overrated imo….takes people to task then backs off.
Report Cider February 22, 2026 11:43 AM GMT
He is infected by the 'high status' disease. Keith was leaning toward saying something mildly negative about Harrington's tenure just then. Can't have that though as she has a protected characteristic, so he shut it down immediately. Plus of course the other condition that champagne socialists are deeply afflicted by, gross hypocrisy.
Report uptheirons February 22, 2026 11:45 AM GMT
Ben would be the first to admit that he doesn't want people he cannot beat.
Having been closed several times in other peoples names for hardly winning a fortune I was surprised to hear in early 2022 that Star were taking people on and laying decent bets.
I rejoined and lasted three months before they drew stumps.
I don't think for a moment that it is Ben's money but that is only an opinion.
An interesting watch though.
Report Cider February 22, 2026 11:49 AM GMT
Yep but he was talking for 30 minutes, at no point was their any indication that their priority is filtering out anyone who knows what they are doing and retaining the mugs. And Luck swerved it completely. Perhaps he hasn't been throttled to £1 max liability after less than 10 bets.

At least dig into what being a bookmaker means in 2026 (ergo, not making a book!)
Report howard February 22, 2026 11:52 AM GMT
Ive had a fair winning run with them this year but recently asked for £1000 Carlisle United and was offered £50 which I turned down.  They were never in front and got beat.  Grin
Report Cider February 22, 2026 11:57 AM GMT
The bet £3.65 retort was the perfect opportunity to broach the subject.

Surely the only thing anyone watching is interested in from a bookmaker is whether they will lay your bets or not. I don't really give a shiit how clever his sister may or may not be!
Report uptheirons February 22, 2026 12:33 PM GMT
Cider,he did say at the start of the interview that,"can I beat this person".

It's quite glaring though for me. So you get a boss of a racecourse group on, you'd expect them to get passively attacked for lack of prizemoney, questionable facilities, prioritising profit, taking out of the sport et al. That happened.

What the one thing your audience would want a boss of a betting company to be challenged on? That didn't happen.
Report sageform February 22, 2026 8:30 PM GMT
I did try to post a follow up earlier but for some reason i couldn't.
Report sageform February 22, 2026 8:37 PM GMT
That worked. I thought I must have been banned from using the Forum. No idea about on course betting these days as I have not done any for 5 years. Interesting that he thought that people were going back on course to have a bet since the checks were brought in. So long as Betfair charge 2% and allow in running bets I will be quite happy.
Report howard February 23, 2026 12:53 PM GMT
No prob for you but when someone wants monkey or grand bets and you can only deposit £100 a month....
Report uptheirons February 23, 2026 1:04 PM GMT
The only advice I would give is to leave your money in here instead of constantly drawing out, Howard.
It is the deposits that get you restricted
Report howard February 23, 2026 1:52 PM GMT
I don't draw anything out. But I can't afford too many £500/£1000 losers that's the problem. I can afford it but you know what I mean.

What's pertinent here are the views he was espousing on the show, not his authoring prowess. In terms of welfare, 'betting harm' and how to deal with nut jobs like spencer. Pretty rare on this show, which usually aligns with the politically correct.
Report Cider April 19, 2026 11:55 AM BST
It IS 'us and them' stuff. It is essentially marxist, they want to change everything and they don't care how they will achieve it. As I stated, you can't have a rational argument or debate with such people, who are driven by ideology. Like Black said, whatever changes you make, racehorses will die racing. So you either have to accept that, or agree that it should be abolished.
Report Cider April 19, 2026 12:00 PM BST
The likes of hannah spencer won't stop canvassing for likes from the dim if you reduce the number of runners, make fences smaller, or shorten the races. She'd be back on line the next opportunity that presented itself.

Luck going on and on today about the industry needs to come up with alternatives to affordability checks. What a load of bow locks. As long as betting exists, there'll be people who bet too much for them. It's an insoluble premise. But that goes for Maccy Ds, weed, holidays, fast cars, and everything else people waste their UC/pip on, or rob to fund.
Report formoftheace April 19, 2026 12:36 PM BST
Unfortunately affordability checks are here to stay…..gambling ((all kinds of) is a vulgar word to the neutral.

BLACK can take his share of credit for the racing game dying in front of people eye, BLACK provided a platform , more a cheats charter where the no 1 lifelong rule of punting wa broken, wether through, FAT PICS, DRONES,GPS ETC ,it now possible to lose money when the option of winning has been taking away,
punters no 1 rule if you cant win you shouldn't be allowed to lose, BLACK invented something which broke that and at same time made it easy for those privy to inside info to bet horses to lose
Report Cider April 19, 2026 7:16 PM BST
He didn't create ptp betting, or the concept of laying horses, he simply perfected it by combining single market liabilities, and producing a brilliant UI.

Someone might point out that eating on a chat show is not a good look. I wouldn't mind Channing so much if he did actually offer something different to the industry love in which is all the show is about. Doyle is incredibly boring to listen to - why book her? Isn't it about time Beckett was on again?

Lots of Labour connections to rtv as far as I can deduce. When the Tory lot had power, hardly a day went past without a snide comment about the Con government. Of course, party politics hasn't been brought up since Starmer's wife was 'spotted' on the racecourse, so nearly two years. That 'the paddock' thing is linked to politics joe, same thing. And Nevison popping in to Ealing weekly to collect his pension. 'Newsboy' another raging lefty. Plus of course LH, I'd be astonished if she wasn't a big Labour supporter. Lee M also.

I suspect Mellish is more sensible but has never been political on rtv in a party sense, more of a straight speaker though. The Dixons probably similar I sense.

These people might well be public about their political persuasions on SM, but I don't use that so wouldn't know. Pretty obvious with Y8s getting his pension from the mirror.
Report Cider May 3, 2026 1:01 PM BST
I thought Oli Bell might be ok, but he was talking some crazy nonsense about how the racecourse doesn't look like the middle of London. tfft, Oli.

If Labour and Mr Khan were serious they would have put the boot into those Croydon ferals that ran amok in a Croydon street rampaging and stealing from food retailers eg Marks and Spencer, Greggs, etc. In America the shop owners eg Chinese and Koreans would be using firearms to protect and defend their stores.

But, the composition of the Croydon ferals is too politically valuable and racially sensitive for either the Labour Party or Mr Khan to counter head on.
