Has a ring to it.
Why risk him over the obstacles again, if he can go out with a bang and showcase his talent in another sphere.
Fans of the horse don't want to witness a final capitulation that could end in tragedy.
Already a CH winner so he's ticked that box.

Looked like an Ebor candidate there IMO.
Win that, and tilt at the Melbourne Cup windmill.

Visually impressive, which is sometimes dangerous when evaluating the achievement.
However, it was pulling away relentlessly when nothing behind was making (or attempting) to bridge the inevitable gap.
Has to campaign on the level, shirley?

He's not going to run on firm ground, so you can realistically forget about the big Summer races, how attractive does it sound now?

The risk for Con Hill's flat career is running him over the wrong trip.

We see this even in this thread and from various pundits in the Post suggesting races like the Ormonde and Irish St Leger.

Really they should keep him to 12 furlongs (as at Southwell). You can't make the 1:1 distance comparison between the two codes. It is easier to go further in the winter game because there are obstacles to slow the field down, and horses are trained and races are run differently.

The other danger is they step him up in class too quickly. Maybe the Arc is a legitimate end of season dream but not via the King George or other summer Group 1s. Next stop the John Porter maybe.

Can't run in The Arc. Short of two essential body parts.

Buckley touting the Ebor and then the Melbourne as targets for CH if he goes down the flat route.

He said: "I think we need to make a plan, we can always change it along the way.

"The horse should be running around about the end of August, the beginning of September, in either the Ebor, or there's a race at Goodwood, or in the Irish St Leger, with a view to going to Melbourne.

Its going to do well to run in the Ebor if it doesnt run till August,as it ovbiously wont be handicapped.

He can get a mark as he's won a race.

I dont know exact handicapping criteria but would be amazed if that race would facilitate what a viable mark CH could get allocated

I think once the rose tinted specs have been removed and I certanly had them on in the immediate aftermath and was one of those caught in the mass hysteria and the undoubted impressive visual impression of what he did at Southwell, but in terms of what he might achieve on the flat, in the fullness of time I have a nagging feeling that that piece of form and what it signifies won't age well.

Although it's a H'cap the Melbourne Cup's a GP1.

The Melbourne Cup has a worse death toll than any jump race in recent years. Would hate to see him sent all that way at this stage of his career anyway.

As the Knight has already pointed out, negotiating the vets down there will be just as formidable as the race itself.

the bottom line is the guy is a drama queen. good job he's not on here.  If the horse is well he's certain to run in champion hurdle.  His ego wouldn't allow anything else.

If he and Hendo are trying to teach the hoss to jump at this stage, it might be considered too late.
CH has already ticked the Ch box so why not try summat else.

Unfinished business, redemption. It's very human isn't it, they were basically humiliated and the horse's reputation was shot.

Fair to say the reputation has been repaired, and then some. But the unfinished business remains.

Potential redemption comes with significant risk attached.

A bit awkward that the conduit is a horse with no choice in the matter :)

Timeform have awarded CH a 106P.
Mullins recent Ebor winners Absurde and Ethical Diamond won off 104.
CH likely to be above their marks.

12/1 fav with Paddy for the Ebor.
Connections appear to be not too keen on the 14F trip.
Softish ground, if it turned up may sway them though.

Ch has potential but it obviously remains to be seen what he can achieve of note, if anything, admittedly.
