Just brought back memories of Jamie Spencer, I think, having a nightmare on the Champion Hurdle favourite some years ago...got blocked in on the fence, should've got it in the stewards room...cost me a lot,I'd backed it ante post at decent prices,I  can't remember the name of the horse atm

It was 2003 and Jamie Spencer won the Champion Hurdle on Pizzaro at 14/1...
He beat Rhinestone Cowboy, who was the horse I'd backed
Gave him loads of barges on the run in
Looked certain to get chucked, imo...pocket talking aside

anyway , imagine a guy who rode 300 jumps winners becoming champion flat jockey ? couldnt happen that switch of codes could it ?

I still have nightmares about "that" race.

The enquiry went on for ages and when it was announced the result stands a huge roar went up from the on course firms.

It’s not that you don’t remember Reg, it’s that memories shift like tectonic plates and form erratic attachments.  Have done it myself on occasion.  Don’t beat yourself up.

Piece of trivia on switching codes. Jockey Dave Dick is the only rider to have won the Lincoln and the Grand National, although not in the same year. He rode E S B in Devon Loch's year . 1956. and Gloaming in the 1942 Lincoln on the flat. A Spring double 14 years apart.

reg its an age thing , at home i  often go upstairs to get something and by the time i get up the stairs i have forgotton what i went up there for ,have to take time to think and hopefully it comes to me what the fook i am up there for  .
