There is nothing untoward, everyone lived, it was brain fade. But 9/10 times you can see why it happened. Sure, I can even see why you could possibly mistake 50 on a white background for a big red circle. But not why you can't see the actual red circle once you begin to pull up !

Whatever about it being a mistake, it was a very expensive one. Was pointed out to me afterwards that the difference between 1st and 2nd prize money was €39.000. Ouch!!

A total of €11,179 was traded at 1.01 on Betfair, but the rider eased up in the dying strides and allowed Finny Maguire on Moonverrin to get back up and score by a short head at 20-1 for Martin Hassett. There was a further length and a half back to Tiktok Casey in third.

Connor was handed a 14-day ban after reporting to the clerk of the scales that he had glanced up at the big screen and thought the 50-yard marker was the winning post.

"That's life and stuff like that happens in life sometimes," said owner Trevor Campbell. "The mare has run a smashing race and Stevie [Connor] just came in and held his hands up and apologised. Everyone makes mistakes. I hold nothing against him at all."

In a taxing race, the 9-4 favourite Brosna Shine could only manage fifth and the Cheltenham winner Celestial Tune was pulled up.

Personally I think it's most unfortunate that he actually thought the race was over and he genuinely believed he was after winning the race. he has only ridden 11 winner's on a main track over the last 14 years (unsure how many Ptp)and adrenaline probably took over just unfortunate for the poor lad and those who lost money today but it's swings and roundabouts like last minute goals in the football sickening when it goes against you and ecstatic when it's ur day.

Tictacman post above regarding the owner's comment post race...
Fair play to the man, don't think I would have been so diplomatic, a true gentleman
Hope he has some success soon to compensate

At the end of the day , anyone who backed him is fully entitled to be p1ssed about the result ! Otherwise none of us would ever place a bet ! The man snatched defeat from victory !
It is a great shame as he rode a terrific last furlong of the race ! He miss an open goal from inches away . If he owns it  , fair enough . We don`t know the man , he maybe mortified by his mistake , or he may well be laughing it off in the near  future ! To be fair ,something like this only happens one in a million rides . It was jockey/human  error .
Maybe they should have insurance to pay out the people they let down . If you backed him , it must feel like he robbed you .
His mates will probably never let him live it down !
If you weren`t invested in the race , you can see the funny side .

The best horse won the race and if he had finished second he would have been an unlucky loser. He stopped when in front and ran on again when he had company

Thr trainer said that Maguire was told to lead as late as possible as she stops when she hits the front

Life is a learning curve. I think yer can rest assured he wont be doing it again. That said what is with easing up before the line? Yer can understand it if you are confident you are well clear or trying to protect a hcap mark, this occasion was neither.
