El Fabiolo helped the winner. Badly backfired on Willie. Lossiemouth looked uncomfortable from the start and jumped like a novice. She did well to be there with a chance at the second last.

Zero effort by Cobden last 2 races, easily could have got the 3rd on Anzadam but couldn't be bothered. He is exactly like Ryan Moore, lethal if you want him to place.

Deflecting from what? I lost on the race. Was definitely wobbling when bda was touching 4-1 but left it in the end. My approach was to take on Lossie primarily.

Very impressive. Though surprised Jack allowed it to be a 3f race. In hindsight his main job seemed to be to settle his horse as number one priority and see what happens. The winner has quickened all the way up the straight to be fair to him. Another one Mark Walsh thought would be better making the running.

Like wsb stated, it was far from certain FTF would have seen out this course and distance so well in the conditions. Regardless of the tactics. Someone was very confident that it would be a going day for him.
Report MJK February 2, 2026 4:42 PM GMT
I definitely wouldn't have been confident in FTF staying in that ground, yet afterwards Mark Walsh seemed to suggest the ground may have helped. It's interesting looking back that the first two home were what many would have considered as the speed horses in the race, compared to the out and out stayers.
Report GoBallistic February 2, 2026 4:49 PM GMT
Presumably there's some chance FTF will be supplemented for the GC (given that he's gone from 3 to 5 on here for the Ryanair)
Report LoyalHoncho February 2, 2026 4:56 PM GMT
Kargese/Townend.   Anyone else dubious about the merit ( or otherwise ) of Townend pulling out wide and right across to the near rail ( as we viewed ).  Lost much of his advantage in doing so.  Surely would have won otherwise?

You cannot be anything but impressed with Fact To File, travelled, jumped, stayed, just very impressive, certainty for the Ryanair but at his age this has to be the time to take on the Gold Cup, as someone who has Haiti Coleurs and Grey Dawning at prices I actually feel more enthused about their chances after the Irish Gold Cup, it should also not be underestimated just how hard a race lots of horses have had at this meeting and that could leave a scar come the big days at the festival.

Report LoyalHoncho February 2, 2026 7:03 PM GMT
Could, should, would.  I think we seasoned race-watchers know all that but thanks for the refresher.
Yes, I was impressed with Fact To File who may have again improved a bit and looks very good for the Ryanair double. If he goes.  However I think his form is so good they’ll have to have a go at the Gold Cup, whether the trip is a doubt or not.
Not often we see two past National winners entered for same - Maximus and Rockett.
Report MANUELPADILLAJNR February 2, 2026 7:05 PM GMT
Very Interesting on Saturday when Haiti Coleurs takes on Jango Baie, not sure that the 2m7f is what Haiti wants but just need a good prep for the big one.
Report LoyalHoncho February 2, 2026 7:11 PM GMT
I was impressed by Jango Baie at Kempton.  Recovered from a shuddering early error and stayed on well enough.  Hoping for a good, more settled run.  Will they be tempted by the Gold Cup do you think?  I would give him another year personally.
Report MANUELPADILLAJNR February 2, 2026 7:16 PM GMT
Jango Baie is favourite for the gold cup and will go for sure unless something happens at Newbury on Saturday, I think he is very poor value and always has been with so much yet to prove, remember in the King George four horses went past virtually together which casts doubt on that form, he may well win on Saturday with his extra bit of toe doing Haiti, its going to be a small field with just these two who can win it so a tactical cat and mouse race which wont tell us much.
