If you've been loving jump racing all your life Acey, then you will miss it definitely. We all hate to see horses getting killed and yes it's sickening, but racehorses as you well know have a great life and most wouldn't have been born if not for racing.

Every genuinely lover of the sport hates that side of the game.
Is there anything worse than a fall, a fall at speed or a horse that goes wrong....ABSOLUTELY NOT. I still gasp when it happens. Is it the best sport in the world....NO QUESTION. Geuine sadness for all connected.....only problem is most like me will be backing something in the next. We move on. |

More attention seeking from Acey.
Nobody likes to see fatalities |

I think it's the death knell for Kempton.

Hardly the tracks fault smoky

Horses die in flat racing also and running around a field. Thoroughbreds have a relatively weak
canon bone and a bad step or fall can be fatal. But think of the 10's of thousands of horses in training that wouldn't have been born but for racing. What's better: a life of luxury with the risk of injury or no life at all? |

You clearly don't love it acey - you've moaned enough on here about how you can't win at it.
No one likes seeing horses hurt, but if you are a long term punter you have to accept it will happen. |
|
By:
Not the point. It would he rather perverse to accentuate the positives after today, and they want to sell this to a younger crowd?
|

I know one thing, tha atmosphere at kempton now will be totally ****.

Thats cause Acey the old Fart is lying loser. Done his nuts again on a Nag.

doesnt sound like it in background at kemp all very happy ,loud ,nothing to see next ,as lucky/jacobs even mentioned it ?

Everyone who follows and punts on the sport are drowning in hypocrisy….myself included….
Two dead on course, how many are searching the boards for a price in the next….. |
|
By:
but that,s what the sports mouthpieces lydia, lucky, oily etc want yoiu to do move on from dead horses and dont be bashful about supporting the betting, drinking you can be doing
|
|
By:
That is my point.
It in incredibly sad when it happens... What happens 30-35 mins later......we all go again. If we couldn't take what we saw we would collectively never come back to the sport.....BUT WE DO. My money says Acey will be starting threads in March like a coke head on a winning streak. IT IS AWFUL BUT GET A FECKIN GRIP |
|
By:
Simple truth is that we (punters) only watch and bet on this sport - we don't produce or present the sport and the risks, others do that every day as their profession.
But, we do have to recognise that we are a (small) part of it, and stop pretending that we would reduce all risks in this sport, if we want to keep on betting on it. |
|
By:
I agree with the OP. However, I don't love it compared to flat racing and my stakes are at best 20% on the jumps compared with the flat. It keeps me occupied in the winter months but if it went I wouldn't miss it. Too many injuries for horses and riders.
|
|
By:
Is a horse fall over jumps worse than a horse fall on the flat then?
|
|
By:
...and by that I do not mean likelihood, or anything visual.
|
|
By:
Newmarket should not bet at all on NH Racing with his total lack of knowledge.
Horses die every day whilst loose in the fields |
|
By:
Sad as it is we have to accept it is part and parcel of the sport we love.
If you really feel so strongly about seeing such injuries happen, then the question has to indeed be why do you continue to watch and/or bet on jumps races, why not just stick to events that you find more palatable ? |

See you in March acey

If we are supposed to feel somehow guilty, what of those who actually run and create this sport?
The trainers, jocks, media presenters, racecourses etc etc. |
|
By:
People die every day in road accidents.
Should we ban cars? |
|

Anyone who feels strongly about fatalities walk away……
Don’t turn up tomorrow looking for a price….. |

Aceform battered more than Harry Ramsden's Cod

People die in cars obviously they wont ban cars BUT I`d have a guess that if Jockeys died at the same rate as horses they would ban racing!
|
|
By:
A ludicrous comparison,Kiddy as they don't
|
|
By:
Of course its ludicrous. I agree! Just saying that car accidents would never cause a car ban but excessive Jockey deaths probably would.

I don't get why people are having a go at acey for saying he would not miss NH racing? I doubt I would miss it much either or even the flat and seeing horses injured and killed is one reason even though I am a realist and won't give up betting because of it. It always seems there is outrage when a well known horse is killed e.g Alverton, Dawn Run , One Man , French Holly and Yorkshire Terrier.
All in different circumstances and reasons but people were affected in all cases and imo had their views of the sport altered even if they never actually walked away from the game as a result. Dawn Run died because of greed, French Holly on the gallops and Yorkshire Terrier in a 5 furlong Nursery where I benefitted backing the winner. I said to Foyles on the day that I would gladly give up any winnings if I could turn the clock back and the horse would be ok. I backed Kalif today as I did when he fell in his first chase at Carlisle, loads blaming the jockey as usual but 500kg of living flesh is going to do what it wants despite what the jockey is trying to communicate in certain circumstances. I will still go racing and bet but like acey, would not miss it if it was taken away. Having lost a couple through injury just running around a field it is one of the reasons myself and my wife will not go back into owning even part of a horse, just too much emotion involved. Maybe as acey alludes, getting older could be a factor, different outlook and don't forget acey worked around racehorses so is not a novice like some on here!! |

People are free to indulge in NH Racing or walk away
