You can,of course see it happening but are powerless to prevent over half a ton of horse from taking off,1st timer.

Overstated 1tp in my view. The horse took off too early Leano, stretched to clear and came down/landed very awkwardly with full weight on his off front fore which broke while offseating the jockey. Then trotted away with obvious leg break.

Terrible to see though there was an element of natural selection with that ridiculous jump from the horse. It wasn’t even the worst fatality as the poor hurdler earlier in the day took a crunching fall and broke its neck. Another victim claimed by the stupid white hurdles that are supposed to prevent rotten deaths.

How do you know? I’m seeing numerous hurdlers hitting the big white top bar and taking crunching falls, some of them very decent.
The horse was Wertpol in the 1.30. I don’t watch ITV racing but I bet there was the usual whitewash such as “let’s hope he was just winded” for a horse killed on impact.
Horses fell just the same with the old hurdles (remember Annie Power)?

Err, the whole point of introducing the white hurdles is that they’re not supposed to be ‘just the same’. The horses are meant to see the white better than the former orange and therefore jump them clean. Plenty of horses jump like the white is spooking them. Not only that but when they hit the top bar they are rotating in the air and crunching head first into the turf eg. Wertpol who didn’t stand a chance.
