An enquiry was held into the running and riding of WATER OF LEITH (IRE), ridden by Lauren Young and trained by Jim Goldie which raced in last position and appeared to be tenderly ridden in the home straight to run on strongly and finish fourth beaten by 2 lengths The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer examined the gelding on two occasions post-race and had nothing to report. The rider stated that her instructions were to drop WATER OF LEITH (IRE) out to able her to get cover from a wide draw to allow her mount to settle having history of running keenly and stepping up in trip on this occasion and mount her challenge when the gaps appeared. Young explained that having obtained her ideal position at the rear of the field, WATER OF LEITH (IRE) settled well and was happily switched off. Young added that on turning into the home straight, the gelding was still travelling well into the race and knowing that her mount finishes its races with a strong surge, she waited for a suitable time to ask for an effort. She went on to explain that approximately 1 ½ furlongs out when she began to nudge WATER OF LEITH (IRE) along, she felt that SUB THIRTEEN to her outside had rolled in slightly, therefore she decided to not proceed further into that gap until she felt safe to do so. Having felt that she had clear running inside the final furlong Young asked WATER OF LEITH (IRE) for more of an effort and concluded that under the circumstances she believed that the gelding had obtained the best possible placing. The trainer confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the ride considering that WATER OF LEITH (IRE) had to overcome a wide draw and had briefly ran to freely in the early stages. Young was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that her mount was run on its merits in that, having obtained clear running for a considerable distance approaching the one furlong marker she was slow to ask the gelding for its full effort despite the fact that WATER OF LEITH (IRE) was finishing its race off strongly.

They want to seriously consider appealing that imo.

If they wanted to 'stop' it, all they had to do was let it run wide from the outside stall.

He was keen early, so she did well to get him cover and switched off, and here's the point, she has a quiet riding style (but it hasn't stopped riding at a 15% strike rate and bagging some decent handicaps).

she felt that SUB THIRTEEN to her outside had rolled in slightly, therefore she decided to not proceed further into that gap until she felt safe to do so

Which should have been enough for them to just note explanations.

And it's actually fair play to Goldie for standing by her in the inquiry because once a trainer says they're happy with a ride that the jock is about to be banned for, they're risking triggering a non-trier fine and the horse being banned from running for 40 days.

Just read that the yard was chasing 100 winners for the year, which they had got earlier on the card with Krissy winning, but imo Water Leith would have been ridden cold even if they've been stuck on 99 cuz that is the way he tends to be ridden.

The people that run racing are embarrassing not fit for purpoise clueless clowns...as said above, picked on a lady rider and ban her for 10days..ban justified as she never tried wotsoever but 10 days draconian.
ive seen 3-4 rides from top male jockeys last couple of weeks that deserved bans and not 1 was even looked at.

Horse who has won ten times when held up, is, er, held up from the outside stall, on a night when it didn't look easy to come from too far back. Said horse who has conserved its energy with an energy-conserving ride and has been ridden no differently from how it usually is, catches the eye as it closes from off the pace under a 5lb claimer who has looked the opposite of Luke Morris in a finish.

There was nothing to warrant any ban.

fckn pmsl..what an idiotic comment..jimbob> so lauren, youre drawn 12...keep 12yds wide the whole race

IF they wanted to 'stop' it. They didn't.

You wanna hope Jim doesn't sue you for that 'corruption' slur in the opening post Laugh

10 days seems very harsh, yes horse finished with running but not a lot Lauren Young could have done,
had to switch to find a gap when Ten Club made coming widest impossible and was then blocked again by Sub Thirteen
4th was best she could manage from that position imo Stewards picking on girl claimer when as mentioned
more experienced jockeys get free rein(!) to do what they want on a daily basis

Very harsh! The Horse is a very tricky type that needs kidding into thinking its not in a race. My only issue would be, why haven't connections run the horse more often over 6F? The last 2 races at that trip until the other night reads 11
