In 2004 I was a part owner in a horse that won a 5f handicap at Wolverhampton in a grade equivalent to today’s Class 6. The winners prize money was £3003. The winners prize money for today’s 5f Class 6 race was £3140 - the same as the last two races (both Class 6). How this game and its ordinary owners and trainers continues is beyond my understanding. PS. It’s amazing what you find in the loft when it’s time to get the Christmas tree out.
But seriously, syndicates had a few nice winners today at Cheltenham Seems the way forward, the old minted owners with dozens of horses with a trainer are thin on the ground

An equivalent race in Japan, winner gets around £27,000.
A Tote Monopoly is the only answer, and they know it, but can't do anything about it. British racing is stuck in a loop relying on prestige on one hand, character, and those with more money than sense.
