Great draw for Scotland, who doesn't want to play Brazil in a WC ? 1974 Scotland should have won, 1982 was slaughtering but that was a superb Brazil team, 1998 Scotland done ok against them, and I expect them to do ok this time too. Would not advise betting them but should be great occasion for fans and the players, coaches etc.

Report aberdonia December 5, 2025 9:00 PM GMT
ive only attended one Scotland game in my life, and it was corporate.....we drew 0 -0 with Norway, but we were fed and plied with drink beforehand, and Archie Gemmell answered questions for over an hour....1978 world cup, Scotland were 3rd favourites and had been on a south american tour, the year before the world cup, where we drew 1 - 1 with Argentina.

I actually believed we would win the world cup, but i was a child back then and loved listening to the Scotland games on the radio....Now the Scotland games just get in the way of the domestic stuff....lol

btw, i asked Archie a question and told him we were one of the big favourites to win in 78........

Both have been dreadful in qualifying tbh.

Report stu December 6, 2025 12:14 PM GMT
Form - England's play has often been poor, but oddly amazingly decent results - zero goals conceded in all matches!? Win's to 0 all matches.

None of the other sides will want England as opponents, because they are an awkward team to play against, and have attacking bite (Saka, Kane etc)
Report impossible123 December 6, 2025 12:16 PM GMT
The expression on the manager's face against Holland was hilarious and SAD at the same time. A spirited comeback, just failed.

England did not even qualify in 74 & 78, Scotland exited in 74 unbeaten, on goal difference, having beaten England in their first game as cup holders, btw England did not even have to qualify in 66.

The difference since is that the Scotland squad is largely white Scots still, would England have done any better with the same make up of players?

I doubt it very much and the team may be called England but English?

Report MALAY December 6, 2025 1:18 PM GMT
Archie Gemmill was not a first starter going into tournament, neither was John Robertson, Graeme Souness, Martin Buchan so it would be foolish to say Scotland didn't have a good squad.
Ally's midfield established midfield trio was Rioch (captain) Masson and Asa Hartford going into tournament.
Unfortunately Peru game became a disaster, match and post match,  Masson missing penalty (who knows what would have happened) and Bud Johnston failing drugs test.

Any of the gamblers remember Scottish bookie Jim Tait (god rest him) planning to take fans to Argentina in a submarine Excited, ? that's why you need Scotland in WC.
Report s.kenbo December 6, 2025 1:19 PM GMT
We are an elite European team, Lochy. We are drawn against weaker countries, that’s how it works.

We are 6/1 second favs on here, you are 230. You’re getting a great price to lay at, you may even win a footy bet in 2026 if they fail!

We were telling you to give up footy betting years ago. You proved on here how awful at it you were. Glad you’ve finally come to your senses, hope it wasn’t too costly.

No doubt we will keep hearing your biased opinions about England until the World Cup is over. It would actually improve our chances no end if you did lay them!!
Report formoftheace December 6, 2025 1:46 PM GMT
Nothing against them Kenbo tbh, just don’t like the hype….punters in Scotland know the team is a million but enjoy the buzz…

Pundits down south have the punters thinking it’s coming home, dreadful song by the way…
Report s.kenbo December 6, 2025 1:54 PM GMT
Do you think we listen to what the pundits are saying about our chances? We all know our chances. Ranked fourth best team in the world, sailed through qualification without a blemish, and we are second favourites to win the tournament. A great position to be in.

Unfortunately we are used to disappointment, underwhelming performances and what-could-have-been. As with each new tournament though we have hope.

As long as the squad don’t try and sell carpets to raise some in-camp beer money I’ll be happy.
Play and work hard, accept defeat with grace and fans party in peace and I’ll be reasonably happy.

Surprised at that.  You might be right but we’ll find out.  Real rarely buy duds.
Report MALAY December 6, 2025 5:41 PM GMT
Honcho they probably sign more duds than you think madrid, because they have huge money turnover.
I'm not saying Bellingham is a dud, he is a decent footballer and physically a large fit man, so he's never going to be ineffective, I just think English media overhyped him and perhaps Tuchel, fresh pair of eyes "he's not that good"
As you say time will tell.
Report s.kenbo December 6, 2025 6:11 PM GMT
Bellingham is the one England player I’ve seen play the least. Has flashes of brilliance like all the stars, but the jury is still out for me. I’m not even sure if I like him!
Report MALAY December 6, 2025 6:31 PM GMT
i've personally only seen him in small samples myself, he's never convinced myself he is a superstar, but the opportunity is there in WC to prove me wrong, although i'm sure he doesn't care what i thinkCool
Report LoyalHoncho December 6, 2025 6:53 PM GMT
From the first minute I saw the laddie play it was clear to me was special.  The World Cup generally proves or disproves that so we’ll maybe find out.  That’s if Tuchel can actually handle him.
Report s.kenbo December 6, 2025 7:24 PM GMT
He seems to have the arrogance of a man who has won everything. He not in that league yet.

I think he’d be better liked if he showed some humility. A lot of the England players are pretty good at that imo.
Report MALAY December 6, 2025 7:43 PM GMT
In all fairness wish he was playing for Ireland in qualifier, also Kane but we will need to try and do it with the players who chose Ireland, before England. I have my doubts but you never know.
Report LoyalHoncho December 6, 2025 7:46 PM GMT
I agree kenbo, that is his problem.  But his c.v. is way ahead of each and every other English player, other than Kane, who is of course a standout if we ignore his shortage of silverware.  If Tuchel could get that edge working as a positive he would be doing well imo.
