Great prog though Simon. Funny but the word Knockout was not used but of course the tv staff not experts.

Howard I thought pictures came into betting shops on March 11 1986 with River Ceirog's win in the Supreme Hurdle though perhaps not all betting shops were geared up for it.

tv allowed  Cheltenham '84 onwards but it was just bbc/c4     SIS started roll-out  1987.

No surprise as it could be among hundreds of your posts over a couple of days!! I said I would be there as usual and would ask the opinion of the veterans about your demand to scrap mobility and let you know.

I did not ignore it Quixall, it was an afterthought by you after your sweeping statement, why should the military be any more entitled than any other disabled person? I have never heard any veteran voicing an opinion that we should be any more entitled.

Anyone know if Angus ever had a tipping line ? Seem to remember some large adverts in the Sporting Life at about this time.?

I remember an old boy in the 70’s telling me to dismiss the “good old days”.  They were actually the good old, bad old days he maintained.  And the old genius was right!
However I still remember the Saturday afternoon I came home from work and the new colour telly was in and the racing was on.  It was like a kind of magic.  Definitely a good old day.
Tangent:  My old man was a great guy but a fiery spirit with a temper to go with it.  My eldest, teenage brother thought it would be a joke to dance in front of the telly while he was watching the racing.  Well it wasn’t.  The old man warned him not to do it again and he did.  The old man got up, went into the kitchen, picked up the broom, came back and told him if he did it again he’d regret it.  Well Davie couldn’t help himself, didn’t believe he’d hit him with the broom and danced and waved in front of the set again.  Quick as a flash Dad picked up the ready broom and threw it the six feet like a javelin, and caught sad Davie right in the mouth with the handle end. Bloodied and cut Davie retreated ( and never did it again! ).  However when our granny asked how he got his injuries he was daft enough to shop the old man!  A week later, my Mm and Dad came in from shopping and the end of the story unfolded.  My granny, from whom my Dad inherited a lot of his nature, had gone out of her way to go and seek my Dad out and berated and harangued him in the street, in full public view, telling him if he ever did anything like it again he’d get more than a cut lip from her.  My Mum said she couldn’t believe how cowed he was by this wee wumman!  A good old day ‘cos I wasn’t involved!
