completely agree Loyal. I have no skin in the game in terms of losing/winning. I got beat well and truly in the race. But this horse has improved to an extent that is...............unbelievable. He has beaten horses rated 14lb+ better minimum by  5l, 5 wide off the bend from stall 14. U recall Mr Bolger's assertions.
Report LoyalHoncho November 2, 2025 1:48 AM GMT
I saw what wonders talked about immediately post race and that was the winner cutting right across to the rail from stall 14 and settle in rear.  I subconsciously wrote it off there and then.  It is crazy what it achieved from there, as you say coming wide five off the rail and exploding past them.

Morning Jimnast, hope you're keeping well.
Not very plausible is it ? What trainer would be brave enough / believe they had enough horse to go straight from handicaps to one of the world's richest races ?
I cant believe it.

I think they must have overdosed on magic carrots.

Don't forget the vet that got caught with a land-rover full of illegal drugs at mullons yard and then claimed they werent for mullins horses and refused to say which trainer they were for !

I think he looked a bit different because we are not generally accustomed to seeing him in warm weather: and then engaged (modestly) with the American way of celebrating victory in what they consider to be the best self congratulatory back slapping competition in the world.

I would like to think the same, but, therein lies the problem.
There are any one of 20 trainers who are capable of training top class horses to their peak, but only a certain mullins manages to take them a step further.

Having witnessed all the anti pipe whisperings many moons ago, which were unfounded it would be nice to think that it is a similar case with mullins except for one thing.

Pipe's vet wasnt caught at pond house with a land-rover full of illegal performance enhancing drugs, whereas Willie Mullins' vet was .

Cider correct. There was a touch of Mine that Bird about it. But nowhere near a fluke imo. There wasn't a great horse in the race so the gap was possible to fill by a Royal Ascot winner / horse that hosed up under a big weight at York. Mentioned only the winner on here before the race. Unfortunately didn't back it partly because Mullins said he would be thrilled to finish 4th. Last time I listen to a trainer. Should know better !

Are we saying that Ethical diamond is soo much faster than all the other top horses in the world that he can travel further distance than they did and still break a track record ?

Then we have seen greatness, arise Sir Pegasus.

Oneten, your facts are wrong there. The drugs that were found in the vet's jeep were animal remedies, which you will find tonnes of in any vet's jeep, not illegal performance-enhancing drugs. The reason the vet got himself in trouble was because he did not buy them directly from the Dept of Agriculture and therefore avoided paying the appropriate veterinary tax.The scandal, if you could call it that, had nothing to do with Mullins.

The British Horseracing Authority has charged a veterinary surgeon who works for champion trainer Willie Mullins with passing on inside information. He has been called to appear before a BHA disciplinary hearing in July.

Tim Brennan is accused of informing his brother about an injury to Faugheen shortly before information became public that the hot favourite for the 2016 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham would miss the race.
Michael Brennan is alleged to have subsequently placed 'lay' bets against the horse in betting markets with liabilities of several thousand euro. He refused to cooperate with a BHA investigation and was declared a disqualified person from the sport in October of 2016.

If found guilty of breaking BHA rules relating to commissioning or conspiring in corrupt or fraudulent practises Tim Brennan could be banned from racecourses and licensed premises.

Mullins is not involved in the case and the BHA has said there is no suggestion he or staff members at his Co Carlow stables were aware of Tim Brennan’s alleged actions. Mullins was unavailable for comment on Monday.

Last year Brennan pleaded guilty to possession of unauthorised medicines following the discovery of unlicensed substances in his van at Mullins’s yard. No conviction was recorded against him after it was judged the offences were “purely regulatory.”

Faugheen had been an odds on favourite for the 2016 Champion Hurdle until Mullins revealed he had suffered a ligament injury and would miss the rest of that season. Prior to Mullins’s announcement Faugheen’s price on betting exchanges drifted to odds against.

Later that year the BHA revealed it was investigating suspicious betting patterns surrounding the withdrawal of the horse. The BHA disciplinary hearing is due to be heard on July 16th and 17th.

First time visor,

Apologies its possible my memory made a mistake as I remembered something about brennan being warned off . It seems it was mullins vet passing in fo to his brother who got warned off for laying

vet who works for Ireland's champion jumps trainer Willie Mullins has been charged with passing on inside information and enabling his brother to 'cheat at betting' ahead of Faugheen's withdrawal from the 2016 Champion Hurdle.

A statement issued by the British Horseracing Authority said Timothy Brennan, a long-time veterinary surgeon for the Mullins stable, is charged with passing information to his brother Michael about an injury that ruled Faugheen out of the Champion Hurdle and allowed Michael to bet on the horse not winning the race before the news became public.

If found guilty, Timothy could be banned from the sport for 10 years, with the BHA expecting the Irish authorities to reciprocate the ban.

Irish authorities have clarified that no suspicions are harboured about the champion jumps trainer Willie Mullins, following news that a vet is accused of possessing unauthorised drugs while he was visiting Mullins’s stable in Carlow. Tim Brennan appeared in Kilkenny district court last week facing 14 charges and is due to appear again for a procedural hearing later this month.

Again, for the record, not illegal substances but the vet bought them directly from stores rather than through the Departmrnt of Agri. A bit like a pub landlord buying stock from an off licence rather than through the brewery. Nothing to do with Mullins at all but merely a regulatory issue between the Department and the vet and nothing to see from a racing perspective.

According to a summons seen by the Guardian, Brennan is charged with possessing five drugs which are not authorised for use as animal remedies under Irish law. These are quinidine sulfate, used in cases of irregular heartbeat, P-Block, a painkiller, Cortalone, an anti-inflammatory, Catosal, used to tackle B12 deficiency, and Hemo 15, which can be used to assist post-exercise recovery or to treat anaemia.

P-Block is on the banned list maintained by the International Equine Federation. Hemo 15 contains small amounts of cobalt, a possible source of concern since cobalt can be used to induce EPO in an attempt to delay fatigue.

The vet got a 2 month suspension where i thoght he was fined. Otherwise my point is the same. This case was not about illegal, performance-enhancing drugs. Court report below

The president of the High Court has confirmed a recommended two-month suspension of well-known equestrian vet Timothy Brennan from the register of vets here.

Ms Justice Mary Irvine said, while she considered the length of suspension recommended by the Veterinary Council of Ireland as lenient, the leniency was not unreasonable so as to justify the court not confirming it.

On the application of Conor Halpin SC, for Mr Brennan, she agreed to defer commencement of the suspension to December 20th and to stay the execution of a costs order until a month after Mr Brennan has resumed work.

The council sought the suspension arising from findings of professional misconduct against Mr Brennan, a vet for the stables of champion trainer Willie Mullins.

JP McDowell, of Fieldfisher solicitors, for the council, previously said the application arose from an inspection by Department of Agriculture officials at a horse trainer’s yard on February 9th, 2015 which identified bottles with deficient labelling and lacking serial numbers.

When Mr Brennan’s vehicle was inspected, five bottles of unauthorised animal remedies were found and seized and Mr Brennan admitted in a later interview with officials he did not have records at his practice of the products seized.

Mr Brennan, of GCS Veterinary, Gowran Castle Stud, Gowran, Co Kilkenny, pleaded guilty in 2018 at Kilkenny District Court to three charges of having unauthorised animal medications and one of failing to keep records in respect of a named animal remedy.

A fitness to practise committee of the council held an inquiry in October 2018 at which Mr Brennan made admissions of fact in relation to four allegations against him of breaches of certain European Communities (Animal Remedies) Regulations 2007.

The committee found proven the first allegation, that he failed to provide an adequate description of the animal/s in relation to a prescription of January 21st, 2014 and another on October 5th, 2015.

It also found proven three other allegations – having unauthorised animal remedies on February 9th 2015; failing, on four different dates in January and February 2015, to include the serial number on the label affixed to certain animal remedies; and failing on April 20th, 2015, to keep at his premises records in respect of transactions concerning a number of animal remedies. The committee found those three allegations, taken individually, amounted to professional misconduct and recommended a four-month suspension.

Last October, the council considered the committee’s report and found the professional misconduct was extremely serious. Having considered mitigating factors, it recommended a two-month suspension of Mr Brennan’s registration.

In her judgment on Monday, Ms Justice Irvine said the council was wrong in law in treating as mitigating factors that there were “devastating personal tragedies” in Mr Brennan’s life at the time of the misconduct and its view there would be no repeat of the misconduct.

Mr Brennan, as with all members of his profession, was obliged to practise according to the relevant professional standards, she said.

She decided against returning the matter to the council for reconsideration for reasons including she considered its recommendation was unlikely to change because it had probably given more weight to other factors it properly considered in mitigation and it was also likely to hear submissions about the impact on Mr Brennan of damaging publicity about these events.

While it was important to remind professionals whose conduct was liable to sanction that it was not the courts’ role to just “rubber stamp” the decisions of their governing bodies, this was not a case for the court to impose a different sanction than that recommended, she said.

Her own view that the sanction was less stringent than it should have been was not a basis to set it aside, she said. The sanction still makes clear the seriousness of the misconduct and points out the gravity of it to other members of the profession.
