I doubt it. Think he will come up with 10 better tbh. He is magnificent.

Sean Bowen vs AP in his pomp would have been a sight to behold.

Bowen would have won on either of the first 2.

Incredible, wins on best horse in race.

Potters Charm 145
Strong Leader 157
Take No Chances 145
Winter Fog 150
Doddiethegreat 142

McCoy was undefeated champion jock despite Johnson having a real go at it. There is nobody chasing Bowen in the same way that Johnson did. McCoy was also essentially a punter friendly jock who was point and fire. Bowen is completely different.
Report LoyalHoncho November 1, 2025 3:14 PM GMT
Bowen a reliable jockey on a good horse.  Can’t ask for much more really.  As for a comparison with AP,……….Maybe in ten years time we will be able to.  Compare them that is.

He's hungry. Let's hope it remains.
Report LoyalHoncho November 1, 2025 3:46 PM GMT
Great point.
Report Cider November 1, 2025 3:50 PM GMT
I prefer him to AP myself, a more sympathetic rider. Obviously different stick rules as well.
Report LoyalHoncho November 1, 2025 5:27 PM GMT
True.  Still picture AP literally lifting one back up to go in front and over the line at Chelters.  A grey it was.  The man seemed superhuman at times.

The win on Wichita lineman was not too shabby either, elise.
Report Cider November 1, 2025 6:20 PM GMT
Just my own instinct, and of course it's a long time since we saw AP live. But for me AP was pretty one dimensional. Of course, it was a pretty good dimension to own! Bowen doesn't give them hard races unless he thinks he can still win. AP was just about that day. I suppose it slightly changed with the JP retainer.
Report Cider November 1, 2025 6:28 PM GMT
Take Wa Wa today as an example, one assumes they fancied it as it was heavily backed. It didn't find much and he accepted it, so they might still have a horse for the next race. Classic AP would not have accepted defeat so readily. Arguably your betting shop punter might have preferred it to be ridden all out, win or lose, classic AP style. But Bowen is more nuanced. In my opinion.
Report Cider November 1, 2025 6:32 PM GMT
I suppose Bowen is more of a horseman, having literally gown up with them. And has more of a feel of what is under him.

AP was a phenomenon who we are unlikely to see the likes of again.
Off topic, but when he strangled one for JP,it stood out like a BeaconLaugh

Report Cider November 2, 2025 2:51 PM GMT
He's much more dynamic than AP in my opinion. That one was more finesse than muscle.

Whilst his ride on wachita lineman was very good I don’t think it was the ride of the meeting that year.
Report uptheirons November 2, 2025 6:31 PM GMT
It certainly pleased me jimnast as I had layed it pre off and backed it back at 100 for a tidy profit.
Please forgive the "aftertime"

Bowen more of a horseman than AP?

People throw in this 'horseman' term as if it actually means something. Please explain. I seem to recall that some used it to describe jocks who were good at presenting a horse at a fence, but were weak in a finish. AP presented a horse at a fence well enough to be undefeated champion, and wasn't weak in a finish.

I notice nobody has bigged up his ride on the short priced favourite in the last at Carlisle. Let's conveniently just forget the poor hold up rides on horses who want a longer trip.
Report uptheirons November 2, 2025 7:59 PM GMT
The horse was not well handpcapped as it turned out.
Was produced to win if good enough but wasn't,dd
Report formoftheace November 2, 2025 8:02 PM GMT
Ride of the season will probably be repeated countless times over the course tbh…

Overexcited backing a winner…..yawn….
Report formoftheace November 2, 2025 8:04 PM GMT
Some quiet riders get the same amount from the horse as the ones who ride like madmen….
Report cufmos November 2, 2025 8:06 PM GMT
Woodland Park got beat because he wasn't good enough, he was there to win the race at the last but was beaten by two better horses on the day.
Report GLASGOWCALLING November 2, 2025 9:54 PM GMT
... If you mean Westerinthepark, he gave the horse a good enough ride, first run back since a break of seven months over a trip that looked to stretch its limits.
