Given recent events, not the most prudent approach to lambast a jockey but jeesuz that day it looked bad.
Plenty of hoss left with the odds on Elliott hoss looking beat he appeared to exit left with no apparent issues with the tackle.
Shocked

"market drifter, (7/2 to 7/1!) had this race in safe-keeping when her rider became unbalanced and came off at the last. She did shift around a bit at the previous hurdle but seemed to jump the last in a straightforward manner and her rider will be disappointed (Devil) to have been unseated. At least she showed that she is in better form after poor efforts on her last three starts between hurdles and the Flat. The IHRB confirmed there will be a further investigation into the unseat. [Tyrone Molloy] The bits in brackets are me!

still cannot possibly see how it can be proved he dismounted.

Not sure whether the IHRB are ticking a box, or wishing to be seen to tick a box, or have something meaningful in the financials.

Although the raceday stewards took no action against the jockey, an IHRB spokesperson said the following morning: "We note the position of the raceday stewards following their review of the incident. We can now confirm the matter is down for review by an IHRB senior racing official."
The Wexford stewards' report said: "The raceday stewards reviewed the unseating of Philip Byrnes, rider of Redwood Queen, at the last hurdle when leading. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the raceday stewards took no further action."
When queried afterwards as to what the investigation would entail, given the lack of precedence for such a case, the IHRB spokesman said: "When conducting any review or investigation, an IHRB Senior Racing Official collaborates with and has the full support of IHRB colleagues across all departments and, depending on the nature of the matter, may also engage with external service providers or stakeholders as appropriate."

How do you possibly prove a jockey misjudged the winning post? As you/we can see it.

How do you prove a jockey jumped off deliberately? As you/we can see it.

As I wrote at the time, there is precedent. Albeit in the UK.

I've actually never seen or heard anyone who has claimed he definitely didn't jump. They just state (paraphrasing) that they couldn't believe he would do it deliberately, due to the risk. Which of course, is a different thing.

I think it is more likely that it will be difficult to prove that he actually jumped

It can't literally be proven with zero doubt. Not a lot can. But the overwhelming probability based on the available evidence is that he did, in my opinion. Of course in a criminal court, the burden of proof is a higher level. However, I don't expect the outcome of the proceedings to be ruthless.

Two glances to his left..looking for loose hosses or, at a big screen?
It doesn't look good, but how do you prove he jumped off.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps November 1, 2025 1:30 AM GMT
impossible to state he dismounted intentionally..can only give an opinion.

that in itself is difficult to prove on the visual evidence, the proof will be if they have evidence from elsewhere, so betting patterns or an overheard conversation, phone records or similar, then the suspicion is backed by motive and they will be able to do the jock

to get his father, they are going to need evidence that he was aware or party to the events, but if there isn't anything then they are going to struggle because whilst everyone thinks he is in on it, who's to say this wasn't the two jocks collaborating to fix the race and the father wasn't involved?

yes, unlikely but if they cannot tie him in they are going to struggle when this goes to court which it could if they don't nail them properly
Report elise November 1, 2025 9:46 AM GMT
i'd guess they have got to have something like betting pattern evidence from owner / trainer / associate, otherwise they are simply going to drag them through a hearing knowing they cannot ban them just to put the frighteners on them, which is unlikely to stop them given their history
