The apple has not fallen far from the tree.
He has seemingly inherited his father's inability to coax two good runs from one of his horses in a limited time-frame..
That effort from Balkadisha very much in-keeping with some of "Braveheart's" training efforts.

Trying to work out what exactly was De Sousa attempting to do with that ride - climb over the far rail or something?

Agree with OP re the impossibility of getting an accurate read of Johston's runners - like father, like son definitely - but on this occasion fingers should be pointed at De Sousa who time after time demonstrates that, once passed, he's not interested in attempting to rally whoever the trainer is. That Balkadisha ride was disgraceful, can only be excused if the horse finished with a medical issue, something I certainly hope wasn't the case!

9th in the trainers' table with 2.5 million in prize money, and ahead of the likes of O'Meara, Fahey, Varian, Kevin Ryan and Hugo Palmer.

More than half of the yard's horses have won a race, which can be boasted by some ahead of him in the table.

So he's doing well given he doesn't have the bluebloods of some, but the big question is can he sustain it?
