Every time I think of putting it up I find that one of the questions is now googleable.
There are ones left that don't appear to be but I'm no longer sure I have the answers correct

Back to shergar still the only horse I’ve seen applauded down to the start in the derby.

jimnast...yes, recall that from being at Epsom that day. It was odd, though, In my mind I seem to recall how the crowd began applauding him in the race about 1.5 furlongs out when they saw he was coasting home but by the line it had fallen rather silent for a Derby finish! I think everyone was stunned.

As for his debut, he was a backable price 10/11 to 1/1. I was there that day with 3 other lads I worked with in IT at NWB.

They knew nothing about racing and so were hanging off my views about the card on the train from Paddington. When the Shergar race came along, I was telling them 'no value here lads etc etc'. (Back then I thought value could only exist in longer priced horses!)

Anyway, an old boy with only a couple of front teeth and shabbily dressed heard me before sidling up and saying 'This one won't get effin beat boys. They could bring back Nijinsky and he would not see this one' Don't be mugs, have what you effin like on, this one will never get effin beat'. (I am paraphrasing here but you get the idea!)

The other lads were suitably impressed and stopped listening to me immediately, believing they had precious inside information.

I kept saying that spmeone like this old by with no teeth and so untidily dressed would hardly have any 'ins' with the elite team of Stoute and the Agas Khan but the boys would not have it. They cobbled together £100 and lumped on. I, meanwhile, stood watching with a knowing smile!!

Oh yes, what an effin mug (To use the old boy's parlance)I turned out to be when it sluiced up - they boys did not let me forget it for weeks afterwards.

Pretty sure piggott rode shotgun for Chris Thornton in the 81 derby Penzance ,lester did ride shergar in the Irish derby.

Not sure Vincent had anything decent that year can’t check as travelling to Ayr ,but do remember 2nd favourite on the build up to Epsom was beldale flutter trained by Michael Jarvis who had won the Mecca Dante however he got injured and missed the race.

We’ll remembered Penzance I had forgotten that,I know the 3rd horse in the Mecca Dante was also 3rd in the derby ,you would have to say beldale flutter would have got closer to shergar than glint of gold.

Another story regarding beldale flutter was he had a racecourse gallop at Leicester as a build up to the arc  there was quite a crowd who stayed on after racing that day.

Remember Frankel started 7/4 on debut and the unbeaten career accumulator was approx 70/1.

Not quite right form he did injure himself in the derby and never raced again at 3 he returned at 4 finished last in the jockey club cup on the rowley mile behind master Willie the horse he beat at Epsom ,he then got beat again in Ireland and that was it.

Coincidentally he won the same 2 races as shergar leading up to the derby
