Ingabelle Stakes Credit: Patrick McCann And, after this weekend, we can add St Mark’s Basilica firmly into the mix as the Coolmore resident enjoyed a black-type double during a busy spell of high-class action.
Aylin initiated the brace when taking out the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday, and she was joined by the €1.7 million Diamond Necklace, who landed the Listed Ingabelle Stakes by clear water at Leopardstown on Saturday. That pair joined Thesecretadversary on St Mark’s Basilica’s roll of honour, after he won a Tipperary Listed event back in early August.
The sire’s hot spell was added to when Ed Dunlop’s Pathein made a highly promising winning debut during Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. If the last few days are anything to go by, we’ll be hearing a lot more about St Mark’s Basilica as the season goes on.

Amo amassing stallion prospects Amo Racing’s sales ring spree has been a major talking point for much of the last 12 months, including on these very pages. It is effectively still too early to tell whether Kia Joorabchian’s spending on classically bred yearlings will bear fruit, although there are green shoots of promise from the likes of May Hill Stakes scorer Aylin, a 600,000gns signing in partnership with Al Shaqab.
However, Joorabchian has already received a return on some of his earlier investments with four former Amo Racing colour bearers generating revenue at stud. None of the quartet have runners yet, although Persian Force’s debut crop of yearlings have found favour with buyers at this year’s sales.
The son of Mehmas resides at Tally-Ho Stud, meaning he stands alongside another Amo Racing talent in King Of Steel, who supplied Frankie Dettori with a fairytale ending to his riding career in Britain when winning the Champion Stakes. The son of Wootton Bassett covered a six-figure debut book at a fee of €20,000 earlier this year.
Arizona Blaze after the Flying Five Stakes Arizona Blaze after the Flying Five Stakes Credit: Patrick McCann That pair are joined by Go Bears Go, another who covered his first book earlier this year, in his case at Oak Lodge Stud at a fee of €8,000, and Derby runner-up Mojo Star, a €3,000 option in his second season at Whytemount Stud.
Joorabchian has made no secret of his intention to support his home stallions, both at stud and at the sales, and he may well have a new name to get behind on the evidence of Sunday’s Flying Five Stakes.
The five furlong contest was won by Amo’s Arizona Blaze, whose Group 1 breakthrough follows on from victories in the Marble Hill Stakes at two and this year’s Prix Sigy and Group 2 Sapphire Stakes, all of which amounts to the profile of a commercially appealing stallion prospect.
Robson Aguiar and Kia Joorabchian celebrate Arizona Blaze's Group 1 triumph Robson Aguiar and Kia Joorabchian celebrate Arizona Blaze's Group 1 triumph Credit: Patrick McCann Arizona Blaze is the latest example of Robson Aguiar’s eye for talent, as the Amo Racing lieutenant unearthed the colt with Rodrigo Goncalves at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale, where he cost £82,000. Suffice to say, he is now worth many multiples of that sum.
This is the second time this season the Amo silks have been carried to Group 1 glory at the Curragh, as Power Blue, another with stallion potential, was last seen winning the Phoenix Stakes.
As well as boosting Amo Racing’s fortunes, Arizona Blaze also gave Sergei Prokofiev his first Group 1 winner since he retired to Whitsbury Manor Stud in 2021. The Adrian Murray-trained three-year-old is one of six stakes performers by last year’s champion first-season sire.

Chris on the barstewards Sunday Sermon, sometimes mentions how it never ceases to amaze him, how you get successful businessmen who become very wealthy though their acumen, shrewdness and making hardnosed decisions, just completely seem to lose all of that once they get involved with racing and bloodstock agents.
Mind, not sure who he's referring to!

Look, its got to be good for racing that we have new people coming into the sport, do we really just want the big three, Coolmore, Godolphin, Juddmonte having all top horses every year. Uk/Irish racing is in a precarious situation as it is, with the big three getting more involved in US/Aus racing it wont take much for them to move more into Japan, Middle east and leave Europe to wither on the vine. When was the the last time you seen Sheikh Mo over here? times are changing, prizemoney and anti animal sports/gambling goverments are closing in on Racing and i dont really see a rosy future for the sport in the years to come. We need more Amo's and Wathnans imop.

Imagine Frankel was mistakenly gelded? Connections would have been deprived of his gigantic stallion fee per time.
Sheikh Mo has made himself "unavailable" after the treatment of his then wife, and the kidnapping of his two daughters. I hope he stays away from the UK permanently.

I think Kia spoke for a few owners there. He came across genuine and frustrated; some trainers do take the mickey. In football Sir Alan Sugar did question the ethos of some managers cahooting with players agents in a transfer deal during his time at Spurs.

Ralph Beckett-trained Stanhope Gardens dies in gallops incident By Sporting Life Horse Racing Wed September 17, 2025 · 4h ago
The Ralph Beckett-trained Stanhope Gardens has suffered a fatal injury in a freak gallops accident.
The talented son of Ghaiyyath, who pushed Delacroix close in last October's Autumn Stakes at Newmarket and was earlier this year pitched into the Derby at Epsom following a comeback win at Salisbury, has lost his life in unfortunate circumstances while in exercise.
Stanhope Gardens ran under the ownership of Marcstown Ltd And New Chelsea and, speaking on behalf of the New Chelsea Thoroughbred syndicate, Emma Spencer told the Nick Luck Daily Podcast: "It's really sad, he was a lovely horse and sadly we definitely didn't get to see the true potential of him.
"He was fifth in the Derby and it was all systems go to run at Ayr this Saturday which would have been the perfect stepping-stone to get back on track.
"It was a freak accident at home, a real tragedy, and it's just really sad as he was such a lovely soul of a horse as well."
Chelsea Thoroughbreds was founded by the late Richard Morecombe and Spencer, who has continued the organisation since his passing last year, said: "We did have a runner in the Derby a few years back but to own a horse that ran really creditably in the Derby is everybody's dream. It's a shame that Richard wasn't around to see that but I just think being by Ghaiyyath, and the way that he was, he would have been a really lovely four-year-old.
"I think Ralph thought that everything was really back to where he wanted it and everyone was excited about him going to Ayr. So it's desperately sad, gutting for Ralph and the team at home."
