Can’t believe it’s that long ago, one of the most surreal events I’ve had in my life sitting seeing that dime on the news that morning.

If anyone goes to NY I recommend visiting the museum and the remembrance water features for both towers.

probably the only date my mrs remembers, mentioned it again last might i,nearly died in hospital that week and the day i came out i was sat up in the chair watching planes flying in to the tower on sky news
Report LoyalHoncho September 11, 2025 1:50 PM BST
I went to a mate’s brothers that afternoon to pick up a computer he’d worked on for me.  He called me up stairs to see the telly and the second plane was just ploughing in.  All stunned I picked up the p.c. and set off home.
It used to be said - and it was very true - that we could all remember where we were and what we were doing when JFK was assassinated, and most of us could.
It works in another way too.
Twenty years later I had occasion to visit him again and met him outside washing his car.  His missus saw me, opened the window and invited me up for a cuppa.  The bold Eric shouted to her “Naw, dinnae - something terrible will happen”!  He associated me with the disaster, not where he had been.

I was in an office on Waterloo Road where we used to have a small tv in the corner with the news on...I remember a colleague saying "you all have to see this"...

I turned around to look at the tv and for the first time in my life thought i'd been drugged.

I flew out of New York on the evening of September 10th back to Heathrow. Earlier that day I was on the Staten Island ferry which at the time gave incredible views of the twin towers. Anyway, arrived in London about 6:00am on the 11th, went to bed for a couple of hours and literally could not believe what I was watching when I saw the news later.
Report LoyalHoncho September 11, 2025 2:42 PM BST
I can imagine your sentiments JV.
I regularly see reruns of varied NY situated tv shows, like Kojak for instance and so often the twins are pictured in scenes.  One M.I.B. film uses them in a long scene too.
Very poignant when you see them.  Weird feeling actually.
I watched it all live and some of the sights were extremely harrowing, later edited out of newsreels.
Today we have the horrors of Gaza.  Dreadful.

No Loyal I was here, had a day off work and rolled one up, toked away, turned on the TV and was thinking I’d switched on some Bruce Willis film!
I called my dad and said you better go see a TV so he went in a bookies and it was on in there! My friend was out there working as a graphic designer and he sent me pics from his roof.

In the museum which I’d share photos from if I could suss posting they have the skeleton of the structure still visible with the graffiti from the firemen.

When you see the girders and concrete rising up like a distorted abstract it’s so difficult to imagine the tons of that that fell and seemed to disintegrate and disappear.

There’s a tiny church right next to where they were and how that survived I’ll never know.

They have these big black squares where the buildings stood with the names etched and water flowing into them. Looking at the names you’ll see Arabic ones too, it targeted everyone.

Airport security really has changed since then and it needed too.

I recall the footage of the blokes all together before they separated and went their separate ways. The film highlighted in this documentary that they had Stanley knives in their back pockets!
Hard to believe!

But I’d carried 4 tenants and 4 special brews (for family not me to show them proper brews!) on no problem when flying there in the 90’s. Even brought a baseball back on the plane, just carried on!
Report Delashay September 11, 2025 3:07 PM BST
Not long ago I read the Book by Ron Jonson, The Men That Stare At Goats. It’s about the whacky things that the US military have done with experiments.
It’s hilarious and jaw dropping that some can actually be real!

They consulted these Martial Arts nuts with trying to learn Jedi mind tricks. One had been approached by a young (I think Lebanese man) who wanted to learn especially in close fighting, how to handle a crowd and knife fighting.

After he’d left his school the next time he heard his name was after 9/11. His flat was full of the paperwork he’d given him and details on planes.

The books worth reading.

Couldn't agree more Loyal Honcho. I've always loved New York and and even when I've been back since 9/11 I still find the whole thing utterly tragic and it's still difficult to comprehend that the towers are no longer there. At least One World Trade Center has been designed to withstand any kind of similar attack.

There’s a sing by the Band The Coup named (Head) of state.

The "coup" referred to in connection to Bush and Hussein is the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq which toppled Saddam Hussein's regime. While there were earlier attempts and plans by the Bush administration to weaken or remove Saddam Hussein through covert means, such as President George H.W. Bush's suggestion for Iraqis to topple their own leader, the 2003 invasion was a large-scale military operation rather than a small-scale coup.

“Bush and Hussein together in bed
Giving H-E-A-D head
Y′all mother****s heard what we said
Billions made and millions dead

Work it out, set it up
Work it out, set it up

Bush and Hussein together in bed

In a land not very far away from here
George W. Bush was drinkin' beer
His daddy was head of the CIA
Now listen up close to what I say

The CIA worked for Standard Oil
And other companies to whom they're loyal
In a whole ′nother land by the name of Iran
The people got wise and took a stand

To the oil companies, ay ain′t **** funny?
This is our oil, our land, our money
CIA got mad and sent false info
To Iraq to help start the Iran/Iraq wo'

Pronounced war if I have to be proper
The CIA is the cops that′s why I hate the coppers
Saddam Hussein was their man out there
They told him to rule while keepin' people scared

Sayin′ any opposition to him, he must crush it
He gassed the Kurds, they gave him his budget
Said you gotta kick ass to protect our cash
Step out of line and feel our wrath

You know the time without lookin' at the little hand
Time came for them to cut out the middle man
Children maimed with no legs and ****
′Cause the "Bombs Over..."; you know the OutKast hit

And they really want you to hate him dead
When just the other day they made him head
War ain't about one land against the next
It's po′ people dyin so the rich cash checks

What did both Iraq and Ukraine have in common? They had something that was desired.

I can’t help if some only see what’s in front of them.

The only question is where next?

Donald Trump has reportedly agreed a deal for the US to jointly develop Ukraine’s mineral resources. Although the agreement, which has yet to be signed, is not thought to include any security guarantees for Ukraine, Kyiv will hope it will pave the way for continued US support in its fight against Russia’s invasion.

The deal also appears not to include Trump’s previous demand for rights to US$500 billion (£394 billion) of revenue from Ukraine’s rare and critical minerals. But it will help secure American access to what are essential resources in the 21st century economy and for which the US has been heavily reliant on supplies from other countries, notably China.

Rare minerals such as gallium are critical for advanced defence technologies but are not readily available to the US domestically. And China, a leading supplier of gallium, has used its control over the resource as leverage against the US. It has imposed a ban on rare minerals being exported to the US, as part of its retaliation to increased US tariffs on Chinese goods.

Other minerals are crucial for military technology such as missile system, electronics and electric vehicles. In Ukraine, there are deposits for 22 of the 34 minerals identified by the European Union as critical.

The problem for the US is that China currently accounts for a high proportion of certain critical mineral imports.

So Trump sees a resolution to the Ukraine war as an opportunity to secure alternative sources of critical minerals, reducing US dependency on China and allowing Trump to take a more aggressive approach towards it. He also may not have predicted that China would hit back against the US tariffs with restrictions on these vital resources quite so quickly.

Gallium is valued by the defence manufacturing industry because it is reliable and durable. In particular, the element is seen as a crucial tool enhancing radar, satellite communication systems, and electronic warfare systems. It is also used in multi-chip modules utilised by navigation and air traffic control systems.

In addition to gallium, Ukraine has vast resources of graphite, an element that is used in the construction of electric vehicles and nuclear reactors, and a third of Europe’s supply of lithium, which is used in batteries.

Trump’s focus on critical minerals has also influenced his interest in Greenland which possesses significant reserves of critical minerals, making it a potential alternative to Chinese-controlled resources.

Welcome back to the great old fashioned land grab. The new space race is the same…. China have gone to the moon for its minerals.

I’d written before that there are 70 towns in the US that produce munitions and other military equipment that’s been sent on tic to the Ukraine.

That’s great for the local economy in the US and now they’re taking back that debt without having to give any security deals with troops on the ground! Win win!

Wonder why the war has been prolonged for so long?

America it’s was pillaged for what the wealth that the land had. That was after Coloumbus had landed in SanSalvador which he described as a rich and fertile land.
Not long after the trees were all cut, farming and cattle reduced the soil to being infertile and as there were no longer tress the sand swept across the island making it barren.

No worries, not long ago they were talking of dividing like Germany was - East and West if you remember.  It’s all a stage, so the likes of Pump can make claims like, “they’d never of invaded if I was still in power…” or “I’ll end it in a day.”

Also remember that they claimed there was Russian influence on that first election that saw him first gain power?

I don’t believe for a minute that he truly wants peace, there was a quote where he actually said , “We need what you have, we need your minerals.”

Trump to offer Putin minerals for peace

US president will propose money-making opportunities to encourage Russia to end Ukraine war

Convenient that he was out of power and that time let them build up that debt and now that deal is done!

Look at the map and what’s there :

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025/08/13/trump-to-present-minerals-deal-to-putin-in-alaska/
Report Delashay September 12, 2025 3:17 PM BST
During his first 100 days in office, Trump spoke of acquiring Greenland and didn’t rule out a military intervention. With Ukraine, the US president complained that the country was taking US weapons without giving back anything in return. In one of his classic transactional moves, Trump proposed that Ukraine pay its “debt” with the mineral resources beneath its soil.

That’s not a guy who should be spoken about with the Nobel Peace Prize.

Geopolitics and minerals were a dual priority from the beginning. “During the Second World War and in the early years of the Cold War, the United States was well aware of the strategic resource potential of Greenland,” Klaus Dodds points out. “And that partly explains why Harry Truman offered to purchase the island in 1946. At that time, the interest was largely in cryolite, which was essential to the manufacture of aluminum.”

The above is taken from this, all seems pretty clear to me. Human life is irrelevant.
