He was interviewed before the race and when asked about him being a hold up horse he said he could go forwards. Clearly those tactics didn't work together with being on the rails which everybody has avoided

Sometimes you need to try something different to keep ahead of the handicapper WP he looked a proper stayer up the hill last time. Off 107 with hindsight he's never going to win however he is ridden.

It will win again this season and now they've got the stake money to invest when the time comes. Just look at the ride Trawlerman was given, he was taken over to the "right" part of the track.

Uptheirons, there's plenty of hope for me. Probably one of the youngest guys on here, been posting and making the game pay for well over 10 years. How long have you been here, 10 minutes?

I have been on here for many years WP. For you to suggest that Balding would stop his horse at this Meeting is utterly ludicrous. They changed tactics and it didn't work. Simple as that

You are entitled to your opinion WP. However, perhaps you can tell me how you can "take Out" on the fav and manage to get it to massively shorten in the Market

Another mug appears on the thread. Mitolo are you still sucking up all the MSM propaganda on the Russia/Ukraine War? War going well, send more money now!

For the record, when do I ever jockey bash on here? The last time was Kingscote on Docklands at Epsom. But I just think that was a poor ride, unlike today's filth

York, 21 Aug 25 Race 1 - 1:50pm THE SKY BET HERITAGE HANDICAP (CLASS 2) Winner £120 000
Permission was given for FRENCH DUKE NAQEEB and ZANNDABAD to all wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider Tthe change of tactics on MOUNT ATLAS, having previously been held up in it's races. Jockey OISIN MURPHY reported that trainer ANDREW BALDING informed him that the owner was not interersted in winning and had laid it for a chunk so please make sure that he did his utmost to avoid this. It was agreed pre-race that MURPHY would go off like the clappers and knacker the thing on the worst ground. Afterwards BALDING said he had no problem with the ride.
Explanations were noted and doubles all-round

Oh, I think I criticised a ride your boy gave one at Wolves....they were ALL on the winner that day. But to be fair, he's been riding really well this season, probably better than ever.
And of course.....One for the system! lol

no bet cider. Was too frightened of Never So Brave on the road like conditions he loves. Should of backed 'em both with most on the biggest price. That's how I usually play.

Not talking about the betting, you were convinced Rosallion was the fastest miler around and would win this easily, take the drop back to 7 in his stride. But he was outpaced, as I suspected. He needs stepping up, not back.

Think you're right Cider. Been in this game a long time and know that if you get a firm ground specialist that is also top class they take an awful lot of beating. If I had to choose today I would still have picked Rosallion. He's probably not quite as good as I thought but also likely doesn't want extremes of ground. No damage anyway.

It's not that quick, that race didn't even break standard. If he was a top class miler he should have been rocking up there on the snaff. I would like to see him in a conventional race over the longer trip. But yes his reputation goes before him and eventually the excuses run out.

Good one that. Hadn’t heard it but very true. Another one I like which rarely applies now is “You can give away weight but you can’t give away ground”. Joe Mercer, who will have started pre-stalls when it would have made perfect sense.

You could be right. At the end of the day horses don't perform to their very best in every race. We tend to get carried away by how good a horse is. But price is everything. That's why I couldn't back back one that I thought ( maybe wrongly ) was a great horse at a short price against such a very good 2nd fav.

ha, in the early days I was very belligerent and happy to pile in on the ones I liked. I am much more conservative in horse racing nowadays. Obviously matured as everyone does, and found out I wasn't infallible. But as I've mentioned previously, I also found my calling, specials betting (and politics). Which to be honest is so much easier than horse racing, I pretty much only do this for enjoyment and nicking a few quid here or there. However I'll always bet on horse racing as I love it, but not betting in the hundreds or thousands.

we all have our ways Cider , aside from bad e/way acca's which are enforced to play early my bets are 95% of the time placed in the final 30 secs as so much goes on during the shows , can never see the point any earlier as it's missing an integral part of the market and taking prices you think will shorten ( which so often turns out not to be the case anyway ) is a small sacrifice to pay long term for missing out on the very late market activity which invariably is an eye opener.
The only player in my house prior to the final 30 secs is the BOT

Yeah it's a long learning process Cider. I was lucky because I played fairly light in the early days. I think the advice Stephen Little gives to bookmaking " Don't take too strong an opinion " also applies to backing. Secretariat got beat 4 times ( & 1 disq )

"Don't take too strong an opinion" is extremely prudent even if the selections looks cast iron eg Field Of Gold (2000G/Sussex), Lambourn (Voltigeur) and Los Angeles (Ireland) just recently. Similarly, PSG against Chelsea in football.
A cast iron bet is only when it wins.
