What are your views on Richard Hannon as a trainer as I like his horses and love Rosalion but on th yesterday he was biggin it up with Classic and that got well stuffed but as he says about any of his horses he has they are the best in the world etc …I think if he had a donkey on Scarborough Beach he would say it was the best in the world etc any one else noticed he does that a lot and I’m getting wary of him now even when they get beat he still says how great they are I don’t know what to make of him this last couple of seasons…
Still hope Rosallion wins if he goes to York and I’ll have a bet on him but this thing now with a bruised foot is worrying…
Great quote to go with this thread in todays paper…
Hannon is very bullish (No I don’t believe it) seven won’t be a problem as he put up two of his best performances over this trip!
I’m still gonna have a few bob on it but if he loses I’ll never touch another Hannon horse again and if he wins I’ll still never touch another Hannon horse again…
Unless he says of his next stable star…it’s the best horse I’ve ever had , I’m happy with him , it can’t get beat , I wouldn’t swap him for anything , hes the best horse in the race , hes been aimed at this race for 3 years

If Rosallion had been scratched from the Marois because of the ground then I'd back him on saturday even over 7f with/without the endorsement of his trainer. However, bad communication (and smirking) and dismissing the bruised foot as something totally innocuous and nothing to worry about I'm concerned to back him at 7/4. He's also been chinned 2x (when well) when he ought to have won one eg Sussex Stakes when Field Of Gold was lame.

I like Rosallion. I hope he wins an overdue Gp 1 this season. But, I'm not backing him unless he's the subject of a 'superboost'.

Ollie asked him on saturday about the horse's scratching from The Marois and his interview with Chapman. He did not seem perturbed or embarrassed, even grin (smirk to me). I thought he did not take the late scratching as punter unfriendly for backers who'd backed Rosallion on his interview with Chapman.

Delashay • August 19, 2025 8:58 AM BST I hadn’t seen the interview with Chaoman can anyone recall what day it was?
There’s a video of Rosallion working the day before (Thursday the 14th) announcement was made. The horse was fine and Hannon seemed happy. Timmy Murphy was happy and the horse was due to ferry over on the Friday night.

Rosallion will be rerouted to the City Of York Stakes next Saturday, having been ruled out of Sunday's Prix Jacques le Marois with a bruised foot. Trainer Richard Hannon revealed on Friday night that last year's St James's Palace Stakes winner had sustained the injury this week and has been treated. He has not, however, recovered in time for a trip to France, where he was favourite for the mile Group 1 contest.
Reporting like this the way that it’s worded makes it sound as though it was some time previously which is why I like many may have felt it was late to let people know. More details on when the injury occurred should have been made clear, knowing that there was a video from the day before released showing the colt to be fine.
Telling Hannon says during the interview that he was a Group 1 winner at 2 the at 3 and we’d like it to be at Four.
He mentioned that he’d face many good horses in France and I believe that the decision was made to try to take in a potentially weaker race to secure that Group 1.
I can’t and am not saying that a bruised foot didn’t occur after the video of him working. The reports are too vague to confirm that, so better journalism please.
I do however think that by reading between the lines they are desperate for that Group 1 win at Four whatever the distance.

If people don’t believe that the colt suffered a stone bruise then they are pot hunting for a G1 in an easier looking race.
The video was long and the only other thing I learnt was he likes shopping for chocolate, Ralph Lauren shirts and Hermes for ties, but not at the moment as, “They are too thin!”

Missing the race gives him more than the 18 days that was between races and the sectional bods did that he put in a big effort.

This subject has become exceptionally tedious, even boring. Why anyone bets ante-post, on one single entrant, just defeats me anyway, but worse, why anybody can take the idle chatter of another person - whatever connection he may have with the intended bet - as a certain basis on which to risk their hard-earned cash on the basis of that idle chatter, is just mind-blowing in its stupidity.

It’s the lure of bigger odds, greed can do that. Not everyone goes for 1.01 and the thought of being clever, spotting something that others have missed.

And as for Anti post it seems there’s only a couple who play that way publicly. You could get good odds, most odds are squeezed to truck now.
After Maki won the Guineas at 33/1 any French colt that was mentioned for Newmarket was put in at 14/1 16/1
I got 16/1 Dolyniya for the Sheena Classic asked the manger to phone up and quote me because I’d read she was going. Won at 7’s they screwed up.

The trouble with Anti post is that they don’t put up the markets when they should. You could get a bet on for Chelts Gold Cup next year or the 2000 guineas next year before the Ascot Champion’s races were priced up for example.
You couldn’t even bet at York for the first day a couple of days ago because the markets weren’t up!

The “trouble” with ante-posts is that they exist. Unless it’s a group activity like the Open or the Greyhound Derby, where you are looking to trade out/green up as it goes along it is for the birds. imo.

No market up when there ought to be. This is why a radical change in the policy governing the betting industry is an absolute must; the present ones are non-plus about making a book. They are only interested in fobt and casino games.

I'm on Rosallion at 7/4 on saturday...for the price and long overdue Gp 1 this season. Maybe life is too short given horseracing is only a game to most.
I picked Song Of The Clyde; I used a pin. Why not? Some gold miners use a couple of bent wires to try and pinpoint where the gold might be.

Thought that Hannon’s remark yesterday showed total contempt and he was on on the mace big time saying what he did. They bottled the race in France and are as said before desperate to win a G1 this year.

Since I put up this thread on Hannon it’s been quite a talking point and great to read all the comments…
I’m really wary of Hannon now and I just don’t trust him he’s just not genuine and the stat that his strike rate is 11% which I still find that unbelievable as he’s had the best horses in the world and they can’t be beat…
But I’ve always liked Rosie he owes me nothing and whatever happens I’m still sticking with my bet of £100 which I’m being honest I’ve never put £100 on a horse in my natural and I’m in my 70s…
So I’m going for it and will see what the best price is tomorrow morning but after the great feedback from everyone I will probably never trust Hannon again no matter what the result will be tomorrow?
Thanks again everyone for the input and what will be will be…

'Denise' seems to have lost the plot. She has Rosallion (1/1) and Quirat (20/1). However, either to win is 10/11. Seriously? Also, I'm restricted to 100p for their superboost = 'go away'.
Sportsbook (100p); 'sly' (250p). 'Denise' (100p). Now, the game is truly kapoot!

Hannon was reported to have said Rosallion did not travel as he normally does. What an unprofessional comment? 7f may have been too sharp, and the wide draw. Also, the horse has had his no 1 race scratched due to a bruised foot. This race was only an afterthought.

I suppose the question is were he and Exactly to have had each others draw would he have won? Ruby, who’s a chit-hot judge imv, feels it cost him at least a length. I feel he would have found some other way to lose. Rosallion - perennial loser. Highly likely never to win again.

Moore was not riding to facilitate Rosallion, and connections should have anticipated that. However, Rosallion with a different trainer = a winning result.

Hannon: "I talked to Sheikh Mohamed Obaid this morning, I don't think the Moulin...it comes a little quick and I don't want to go to a race like that off the back of this so close to it. I'd love to go to the Breeders Cup. I honestly think he'd go round there like Sclextric, but then again you're relying on getting a good draw and if he does that he'd have early speed and with two bends he would be able to kick off the last bend. I always thought he'd be very hard to beat in a Breeders' Cup Mile. We've got to think of him as a stallion and I think it's essential he wins somewhere."
The reference to "Scalextric" is professional suicide, and desperation; the horse has had 3 attempts to win, coming up short each time thro' no fault of its own. And, now to America - a totally different ball game at the end of possibly its final season.
I wonder if Mr Hannon has ever sought the advice of Hannon (senior) on this matter.

Gary Moore has done much better than his father Charlie
Years ago Charlie also used to run a used car lot on the side in Brighton and I looked at a car he had up for sale.
The rear doors were held together by bale string stretching across from one rear door to the other as one door would not close properly.
I asked Charlie about this and he said 'just treat it as a 2 seater and you be all right'.
Charlie was ok he used to go down to Black Horse pub in Rottingdean a coastal village near his stables and point to all his drinking buddies to what the chances of his runners were and overall a good judge.
