I think this should have gone very close to winning at Royal Ascot. Instead of making the running Marquand had it out the back. It finished strongly, but he never gave it any chance of winning. I can only think they have retained him to right the wrong.
Also backed Pina Sonata at 22/1 4 places earlier in the week. Backed, but now on the drift. Pulled out of a much lesser race a few days ago because the ground. Is it soft as per Racing Post or good as per oddschecker? The market is suggesting oddschecker is closer to the truth. It's a tough ask, but I don't think those at the top of the market set too high a standard, and the trainer isn't usually one to throw this type of horse into a Group 1.
Given Afjan another chance in the hope Soumillon can get him back on track after two disappointing efforts.
Shame they didn't pull it out. Wrong side, but nowhere near good enough, at least on that surface. Write-up will say 'keen', but I don't think that stopped it as I think Muscutt made it look worse than it was.
