Cruel twist of fate that the horse who has had so much of his career defined by the trainer preserving him against fast ground succombs in this way.

Looked bad, hope for good news, likely a very sad end for a great horse over the years.

Tragic.  Hollie will be emotional.  She associates the horse with her mother and her illness/operation/recovery.

Common sense should come into play at some stage,  I remember oliver sherwood had good chaser in hemmings colours , during latter end of career it used to get wobbles after race from exhaustion and get oxygen but still tye clown sherwood kept running and eventually killed it , tye oxygen didn't work in end and he collapsed and died , greed is awful thing and these trainers like sherwood would give u guff he loves it etc blah blah but someone has to call it as it is , the acid test would be if it was human being, would u keep continuing

for a horse who has wanted jumping ground his whole career to run him on time-based g/f flat ground is crackers imo

I’m aware P he’d won 11 before Newcastle 12 then, but 4 after, just my view that winning that race wasn’t a good thing for him.

Sad outcome for him. Sad

As for the ground it’s been said there’s an ease.

Remember backing him when won on AW and was a lesser known rag in the race, Hollie Doyle rode, and it got me out of a hole at that time with that win. Sad day Sad

declaring and pulling out at last min finally caught up with them, the showers/general feel of day,not the times, tempted them in to running as they were already there

Taking a cynical view, connections probably factoring his age and deterioration in form into the decision to run him on faster ground. I guess it proved Alan King was right in withdrawing the horse over the years whenever the ground was unfavourable.

It can happen in a field as we know but sometimes the owners have to know when to call it day. As Cooper said she was sorry that she’d ran Sweet William in the Gold Cup and put him through that. Admitted they knew he’d not like the distance.

Injury could have happened at home, however still very very very sad. Poor Hollie as well, from joy to despair. Trueshan a true warrior and stalwart of recent times. RIP.

I can't think of a worse sight in racing. It never fails to make me gasp.

You have to genuinely feel for the poor horse, and those involved that most likely absolutely adored him.

A crying shame Cry

i remember that sherwood horse keeling over. if its true it regularly had the wobbles after a race then it should have been taken out of the trainers hands

When: 29 Jul 25 16:02
Mitolo off course it's true u can research it and when it died,  sherwood gave up the guff that it loved game blah blah,  they had to have  oxygen ready for it after each race , horse should be retired as old enough too , sherwood Is first class clown anyway lost any bit of respect for him after that

I had the pleasure of visiting Rhonehurst 3 times. On two of those occasions Sherwood took myself and my Mrs up to the gallops in his jeep. Very surreal sitting with a legend of the game chatting away, and he never came across as hurried. They have a tree planted for Many Clouds which is visible from the gallops....Sherwood adored him. A gem of a man. Asked if I could contribute to the stable for his time and he asked that I make a contribution to the IJF. All class.

I hope he is well actually. Not heard much about him since he joined Derhams.
