I dont understand issue with Id cards personally it makes everything easier having had one in europe. But it wont stop any illegal work migration etc.. which is the argument used.
Report impossible123 July 17, 2025 2:46 PM BST
"illegal work migration" will be greatly minimised and deterred if the employer is automatically and legally deemed responsible and issued with a fine and criminal record; if the employer is also a foreigner deportation must be enforced without any process of appeal. Both offenders could choose between their country of origin or a 3rd country eg Rwanda, Swaziland, etc.

We live with a political system which elects minorities.  It is an unfit for purpose system.
We face legal issues if we don’t register a birth, a marriage, a death etc.
They should make it a legal requirement to vote full stop.
Is there an M.P. anywhere in the land who bagged a majority of the votes?
Tinkering around with it won’t change that.

theres plenty of mps who gained a majority because of the ludicrous system, which is grossly unfair

compulsory voting would end up with the victor getting a potentially massive mandate that wasnt a true reflection. you might get an anti-vote against someone controversial and all those who dont like them load up for someone else they dont hate as much as the other

You miss my point.  Of all the voters in any Constituencies an average of, for arguments sake, about 65% come out to vote.  So, 35% of the electorate don’t vote for whoever wins.  Which, in most cases, guarantees that the “first past the post” winner gains appreciably less of the possible vote available.  He or she is thus a minority.
With a standard three way go of Tory, Labour and Libdems the winner may only get 25% of the potential vote to win the seat.
He, or she, is thus in the minority.
Report mitolo July 17, 2025 5:31 PM BST

Even Labour parishioners are embarrassed. Does anyone suppose this would be happening if the consensus of teenage voting intentions was different? Even so, it is not guaranteed

Also, pressure from senior family members on the young will now become a seat-swinging reality, and given the scandals over recent postal voting bloc votes, can only intensify

Imagine the Tories moving the voting age to 21? The same people who are now silent would be in uproar

It will be interesting to see if any Labour member has a clear enough conscience to go against this

votes for kids is a blatant attempt to manipulate the electoral maths becuase of a perception they will benefit. do you agree?

^ Is this what you are referring to as your pertinent question?

If so, the answer is that it will probably (to a very tiny/insignificant extent) benefit everybody except perhaps the Tories i.e. Greens, Liberals, Labour & Reform. However it won't make a significant difference to any party.

Due to the ageing population, 16 & 17 year old's make up a trifling percentage of the population. Pick any age group you like from 60 years old and upwards (spanning 2 years, e.g. 60 & 61 year olds) and that group is bigger as a percentage of the population than 16/17 year olds. If you then also factor in the respective propensity of young people versus old people to actually exercise their vote - it becomes even more insignificant.

Maybe you could have researched these facts for yourself rather than falling for misleading headlines? You admit you know nothing about pensions, maybe you could admit that you don't really let your lack of knowledge on any subject get in the way of expressing your ignorance.
