Obviously a ton of excitement about this race on the forum. Hardly surprising that there are threads on other sports.
Ground expected to be on the soft side. Race looks to have more question marks than anything else. Is Cosmic Year really a Grade 1 horse, and does he really want a testing seven furlongs? More speed than stamina in my view and for that reason he looks short. Shadow Of Light would be favourite had he not run at Royal Ascot. Unfortunately, he did, and blew out. If you could ignore last time he would be favourite. The Lion In Winter has more questions than anything else. He could very easily just blow out again, having shown next to nothing this season. This shouldn't be his trip, and the ground is another question mark. It looks as if they are clutching at straws. Maranoa Charlie has either bullied second division opponents or flopped. At the moment he isn't a Grade 1 horse. The outsiders look held by the top four. Silius might the best of them, but needs to take a big step forward to entertain winning. I would side with Shadow Of Light, but with very little confidence.
Hoping Nighttime can get away with the ground in first, and with ground and trip to suit looking to suit, gone with Honeyflower each-way in the fillies listed.

Excited here!
Head has said that Marona is the best that he’s trained (quite a statement to put him ahead of Big Rock and Rama) ….he seems a big strapping colt who is a little like Lazzat in that 7f is his gig.
Just passing that on Heads comments from an article.

Sunday 6 July 2025 at Deauville - Aurélien Lemaitre partners Maranoa Charlie in the Prix Jean Prat (Gr. I): ‘He's much more composed now’ Already the holder of 9 Group I victories, Aurélien Lemaitre has the opportunity to add another with Maranoa Charlie, who has gained in maturity and is unbeaten over the course taken by the Prix Jean Prat in two attempts and more generally over the 1,400 metres.
You'll be partnering Maranoa Charlie on Sunday in the Prix Jean Prat. It sounds obvious, but the horse has just changed hats. Weren't you worried about losing him?
Aurélien Lemaitre: I was especially worried at Ascot because we know how things are with the big structures across the Channel. They raid all the horses that come to us. They have jockeys under contract and you can't do anything, you lose your ride.
After the departures of Angeal and Ramatuelle, it would have been a heavy blow because it's a priori your best horse this year.
Ramatuelle became a broodmare, but as for Angeal, she was sold but I haven't lost all hope of being associated with her. After all, I rode her in the Prix d'Aumale when she had just been bought by Mr Yoshida. Since then, she's changed trainer, but there's no reason why I shouldn't ride her. After all, I rode for them this winter in Japan.
Maranoa Charlie is coming off a convincing victory in the Prix Paul de Moussac (Gr. III). He fully recovered after a questionable outing in the Prix Texanita (Gr. III). How do you analyse these two performances?
He runs well in the Prix Paul de Moussac and repeats, albeit carrying more weight, what he did in the Prix Djebel. For the Prix Texanita, it's different. It wasn't a race for him with an inside number and horses that ran faster than him and covered him. I didn't want to force him after the start, it would have been detrimental to him. It gave us a chance to see how he behaved in a backstretch. He felt good, but he doesn't have the pace when starting from 1,200 metres, so he's still a flyer.
For the third time in a row, you'll have the No. 1 in the stalls...
Over 1,400 metres, it's less disturbing than over 1,200 metres. Over 1,400 metres, once he gets going, he quickly finds his rhythm.
On Sunday, he contests his second Group I after his attempt (4th) in the Critérium International at the end of last season.
In the Criterium, on heavy, broken ground and over a fairly long distance (1,600 metres), he showed himself to be too forward. He was still very immature and rushed a lot at the time, even during the trial canter! I think he's much more composed and relaxed this year, as we saw in the Paul de Moussac. That day, I was able to control him for a good part of the race before restarting him. And even before the start, he stayed in his bubble. I haven't ridden him since our last race, but he doesn't need much work now because he's in good condition. Christopher Head is finding him good at the moment.
You could win your 10th Group I on Sunday. Is that extra motivation?
Oh, if that's the one, all the better. The horse is over his distance [he's unbeaten over 1,400 metres, editor's note] and has a good mentality. But if not, that's for another time (smiles).
A win would add a little salt to your season.
I've had a good start to the season, but being in Japan this winter meant I missed the first two months of competition. It's not easy, because that's when you get the ball rolling. I've got a few fewer rides because my main employer (Christopher Head) has fewer starters than last year and fewer horses to offer me too because Cristian (Demuro) is now Mr Bizakov's first jockey. Nevertheless, I've won a lot of outside money and I've won new clients. But it's certain that I'm missing a few good horses this year, so I'm happy to have Maranoa Charlie.

front of the market may well fight it out but which one ? I have gone for 2 at lunatic prices w/p on here just small bets but at the odds a massive return if in the unlikely event one kops ,appolo fountain around 400/1 plus on here and cacofonix 300/1 plus ish . obviously they need to find plenty but ones trained by Fabre and looks versatile leading or closing . caconofix stepping up in class massively but improving .both more likely outclassed and tailed but as said small bets so no harm if they fall out the telly .

very rough race that Apollo Fountain knocked lion in winter sideways and a lot of scrimmaging otherwise Soumi rode a great race but there might be a stewards there and who knows what will happen

I’ve not seen the the but see the two with form with eachoter fought it out. Silius strange run as it had form with them.
Anyone who calls AoB a genius has a forgiving attitude as they must have known That The Lion was NEVER going to stay the Derby trip!
Turn up in the books for the French to come out on top with our horses with classic form!

The Lion In Winter has been a bogey horse for his supporter this season. He's being aimed for either the Sussex Stakes or Jacques Le Marois, according to AOB. I think he needs further than 7f eg Sussex Stakes; connections has Delacroix earmarked for the Juddmonte.

TLIW might go to the new group one at york, you never run out of group ones always another one coming along in a few weeks time, bit ridiculous you can not win 5,6,7 group ones when the 8th attempt and your a group one winner at 3

if royal ascot cards were replicated in ozz where they think nothing of backing up their sprinters/7f horses,in a yr they had a superstar ,it could win 3 group ones in a week

You can add the likes of Dancing Gemini into that for knocking on the G1 door.
The Jean Prat was always a weak consolation G1 for milers from ours and their Guineas to take in.
They kept the status but changed the distance and the track, more emphasis on speed, as you had to stay to win when at Chantilly.
Shadow of Lights season has fallen apart from what was a great run first time up in the Guineas. Anyone think it’s odd that he’d pull Ruling Court from the Derby because of the ground. Yet, run Shadow of Light on ground that they said was too quick at Ascot? Surely they knew he’d not like?
One horse cotton wool wrapped, the other not.

Morning 'Delashay', I thought the withdrawal of Ruling Court had something to do with the running of Shadow Of light the previous day; Shadow Of Light had a hard race because of the ground. The ground the following day was worse given the overnight right.

Top of the morning to you Impossible. You might be right just seems weird he’s a great trainer but I’m seeing a pattern where he has them geared up from Dubai they run their races then it’s sort of a scrambling to get their season back on track. In a way I was surprised that they brought him back out so soon. If you think he’s a sprinter there’s the Maurice De Gheest short of yesterday’s race, or the Marois as you know. Should they be running or fact finding at this stage of his career?

Mr Appleby is a very good, honest and obliging trainer; sometimes too obliging. I think running Ruling Court in the SJP post Epsom withdrawal was "too obliging". On the other hand AOB "forcing" The Lion In Winter to run in The Dante, and then Epsom was over-ambitious. This was solely for commercial reasons; yesterday the same horse ran in the Jean Prat (7f).
What next? The Sussex Stakes or Le Marois, if avoiding FoG; his 3 yr old colts including Henri Matisse have been pummeled by FoG

I’m not knocking Charlie just seems all a little up in the air. The vibes were weak about Mattisse at Ascot. The stiff mile concerned me there and I had our Guineas above the French after his run at Ascot. The weekend threw another spanner though with Pissaro finishing upsides our Guineas winner in the Eclipse.
After the French 2000 Soumi said he’s. JC horse after Sandown he’s said to have said Miler!
We’ll see how the JC form goes next weekend on Bastille day in the GPDP with Trinty College. Others from the JC will be re opposing as well as others who that was too short for. We also might see the Derby 4th again.
