I like Richard Hoiles but that was not his finest hour. A commentator is supposed to describe what is happening, not all viewers are racing experts like the forum congnoscenti. Funnily enough RH actually tipped Delacroix for the race in his column for Betway.

It's possible then that he was watching Delacroix out the corner of his eye and was distracted to the point he couldn't get the right words out. He did appear to falter mid-speech.

Hoiles lost his breath in the final furlong and couldn't get his words out. He was at level 10 a long way from home. Doesn't measure it correctly. He's good but as I've said before he doesn't level off after the result. Don't shout, Richard, when most of the people listening to you have done their dough!

I like the commentators who bother to add on a colour or kit highlight as they relate the race positions. Always helps in race i.d. during a fast paced day. Even when you’ve checked colours pre-off you can forget them during. Of course the big outfits/owners/breeders silks need no reminders.

look was sacked because he was deemed too middle class. the idiot class warriors only want it one way. imagine if he was binned for being too working class. theyd all blow up deluxe
the new influx of maris pipers are rubbish. u.s and aus mostly much better
and why cant we have the distance covered on screen, and live movements in positon with the numbers going up or down like they do everywhere else. we are very poorly served

Not for me. Perfectly happy with our style. The screen position show almost impossible anyway given the wide variety of course layouts, race types, etc. Standard left hand tracks in the U.S.. Chester, Sandown, Plumpton, Uttoxeter here. Oncoming sprints, straight miles strung across Ascot with 26 runners. Non starter for me. “Nnnyerrrinthheegaaaaate” is bad enough. Then, you’ll want Lasix.

Many different preferences highlighted on the thread reminding us that we're all different so you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.
Good to remember sometimes that things we don't particularly like aren't necessarily bad or wrong they're just different.
Good luck today all

if you watch the numbers forward or back in aus the u.s. or france its a great help as sometimes the colours are similar or big fields make it hard to see. its not intrusive as its right at the bottom of the screen. also handy for i/r as the gaps in the numbers are an accurate representation, to scale, of the distances between them
not everyone has perfect vision or hearing and they would be helped by these additions, which are readily available and cost nothing
and counting down the distance is handy also, as is the number of fences left.

Fair enough, apologies there, I do get it for the Yank stuff tbf as they haven't got the colours and you are more reliant on the numbers, but they are small fields so not so bad anyway.
