The thing is, Glen. Someone makes a throw-away comment on here to try and cause harm to someone, and you believe it straight away. That’s why you were a crap copper and an even worse GI Joe.

If this pair you allude to have each splurged a million of betfair's money, the company won't mind if you name them. Just step up. Make your abstractions concrete if you think its the company im bothered about then you are way out the root of your confusion is they were given credit, but i didnt make it clear they didnt lose. i assumed you would get that but as you admit you really dont know, i can see why the misunderstanding occurred |

That would be why my commendations were awarded Kenbo? Proof of which was posted many years ago along with my actual service?
Name anyone who has ever provided as much over the years despite small minded haters like yourself? |

I worked in the industry thé problem gambling issue is huge, not small, I can assure that. Estimated 3 to 4 suicides a week
Due to gambling due to gambling on what exactly ?? online slots, casino, roulette .... that's the 'huge' problem. |
|
By:
problem is when someone does themselves in its quite likely there are many factors in play
drugs, mrs left them, depressed, health problems, lost, or more likely, gained a job, bereavement, general unhappiness but gambolling is mentioned and bingo, its the reason |
|
By:
It’s very simple, when you sign up to open a betting account
You supply the requested information, and most importantly proof Of funds etc. to determine what you can afford to lose. Thsts Perfectly logical. But to protectpeople who have gambling issues, Affordability checks have been introduced, thé key word is affordability With people who have issues, if the bookies follow the rules, they can intervene And stop people losing life changing sums of money, and very quickly too There have been numerous cases of people ruining their lives through uncontrolled Problem gambling. Thé bookies have are completely aware of everyone in trouble, through Their spend, they do nothing, absolutely nothing, they let these punters, run out of cash, and if case is highlighted They absorb the fines and publicity. The regulation at the moment doesn’t work I repeat no company, particularly betting companies should be allowed to accept huge sums gambling This punter Done 1.5 million, with no questions asked. So thé question Is do you think, it’s legally and corporately Acceptable to accept 1-5 million from one punter?? |

It is the easy target mitolo, no mention of work pressures etc. I have seen too many suicides to document but have personal experience to call on. The first ever was a friend of my mother in law, her dentist.
I had day surgery this afternoon and spoke to several professionals who discussed their schedules including my consultant, would not be a surprise to find one that had decided it was too much. |

if i open a boils account tomorrow i'm history after 3 bets cos he know's he's getting fk all out of me. if he's that good at identifying people he doesn't want he must be able to identify problem losers. trouble is, instead of limiting them to buttons he invites them to a hospitality tent somewhere and pretends to be their best friend.
|
|
By:
poor ol poncho just doesnt get it
proof of funds means nothing and who determines how much you can lose? those who are going to do it in will do it in, nothing anyone can do about it if the punter is tony bloom, should he supply info? ive said it before, anecdotally, i know people who do not bother now because of this, and they have plenty. thats several mill turnover gone. they only bet on-course and no other state does this. are they criminally reckless or are we the opposite? |
|

Poke a highness have you and your idiotic cohorts never worked out that a bookie laid odds that Jesus would not survive the night on the cross and you lumped on that he would?
Then went for the double that he would come back and you would be paid out on 31/12/2024? Have you been paid yet? |
|
By:
you can't have a "problem" online unless some cnts sitting watching you lose a 'problem' amount and doing fk all to address it.
which they clearly are. |
|
By:
if you're winning online you are the problem. and you'll be swiftly dealt with.
|
|
By:
Never mind the fact that this particular case is donkeys years ago?
Why let facts get in the way of reality Hulk et al? |
|
By:
Jesus Cag, you have definitely drifted into the arena of the unwell
|
|
By:

People are entirely responsible for their own actions whatever they are.
Nanny State gone mad with encouragement from the Anti Gambling Commission led by clueless morons with zero experience in gambling. An absolute laughing stock to the rest of the World |
|
By:
The problem is that gambling is a fairly unique issue in many ways. The closest comparison is investments and business ventures, but mostly they are slow and longer term, and not as closely related to 'buzz' etc.
Gambling is one of the very few ways individuals can lump money rapidly into bets, lose it, and keep going immediately that way...In the most extreme cases that can ruin a person's life, very literally. What really annoys me is that while the media are hand-wringing about some poor gambler case, there is adverts all over the place banging on about some bingo or free-spins, or free awful value bet, filth - and that is everywhere, despite the supposed 'concerns' about gambling. If society is really concerned about gambling, then fecking well stop the 'moron gambler hunting' that keeps endlessly happening across all media, and is encouraged to grow! Either that, or let's just go back to letting anyone do what they want. |
|
By:
I've just realised I said all that and didn't even mention scratch cards - holding up every normal shopping queue while the person decides how many number 7's and number 5's they want to buy with their remaining cash in the purse - but of course, that is just fine...

Can ruin lives Rico.
Drugs are illegal. Are responsible people to be punished because of a relatively small percentage of addicts? |
|
By:
Should responsible horse racing gamblers be punished because of a relatively small percentage of FOBT addicts?
should tesco stop selling paracetamol because of a relatively small percentage of crack cocaine addicts ? |

If a man comes home without the housekeeping to give to the wife, a gambling company can't be held responsible for that. It is totally the man's fault for a complete lack of self control and for marrying the wrong woman.
|
|
By:
should have married a dominatrix you mean ?

By:
Many people have lost everything they owned on the Stock Exchange without any interference from the GC
|
|
By:
In recent examples where people have asked to self-exclude but have been able to continue using their account that is the company's responsibilty, self-exclusion should mean account closure and they're very good at that with normal punters.
|
|
By:
I agree on that irons, and oddly they have also started to increase advertising I think - etoro etc.
Advertising in gambling/trading is the key issue IMO - but for all the new movements we've seen that is one area that manages to go untouched mostly. |
|
By:
When I say agree, I mean I agree that is equally a problem gambling area, but one that goes unregulated mostly.
The stats are something like about 90+% of home based stock traders on the stock market lose cash. That might be even worse than areas like sports gambling. I'm pretty sure there will have been suicides in those areas, so what is the reason it gets treated different? |
|
By:
https://business-school.open.ac.uk/news/stock-market-crashes-linked-higher-rates-suicide-%E2%80%93-new-research
Just one example from a search - it is no different from the argument about controlling gambling basically. |
|
By:
Interesting study as they basically isolate the effect it would have on traders with financial risk too in their method:
In our paper, we take all of these factors into account and isolate cleanly the influence of stock market movements. Even if market crashes typically overlap with periods of economic recession, they appear to generate an impact on voluntary deaths in their own right. |
|
By:
Off the top of my head - a couple of differences between gambling and trading the stock exchange:
Does the Stock Market offer you free spins on payday (after you have self excluded)? If you start out trading the FTSE100, do they try to entice you into trading Junk Bonds instead? If your shares go up and you make a profit, do they prevent you withdrawing your profit until you have gone through their counter-terrorist protocol? Does the Stock Exchange restrict or close the accounts of winning traders? |
|
By:
Not identical, but I read a book by guy called Chris Stringman about the stock spread betting side, and how they will hold their 'seminars' in order to get you hooked into it, and offer certain incentives to come back once you leave.
I realise that spread betting is slightly different, but fairly sure there is marketing e.g. etoro and other services. I've never done it, so someone else could probably tell us more about their marketing. |
