I can still remember in the early 80's housing gave priority to the young (unmarried) single mum eg have a child to get on the emergency housing ladder. None of them are/were fit to hold the Office of Prime Minister. There it is. On the other hand I'd place Farage (if he ever becomes PM) in the same box as Johnson and Truss. A trio of incompetents who would have been better suited to become stand up comedians rather than Prime Minister.

The present asylum system is being used and abused by many foreign applicants most of whom are economic migrants and not genuine asylum seekers. I'd advocate the application of every asylum seeker (except a young child) whose ID verification eg paper id; life history; journey to UK; etc, is inadequate or (suspiciously) dubious should be held/housed in a large vessel offshore in UK water but not on UK soil. The applicant must be held there until their application is processed, and appeals exhausted. This will be a major deterrent to any future potential Channel crosser or asylum seeker.

In Australia all foreign entrants into Australia without a valid visa or authorisation are subject to mandatory detention until they are either granted a visa or deported. This will weed out the genuine applicants and the economic ones.
