Picked the wrong chancellor then, worse, stuck with her too long.  He is surely casting around quietly to select her successor but is the material there?

I wouldn't go so far to say that I passionately criticised this thread's location? I merely pointed out it had nothing to do with horse racing. For some unknown reason that has resulted in various individuals bringing the wrath of God down on my head. If I'd known there were so many people with serious anger issues on here I'd have let the matter go. Sad

"I merely pointed out it had nothing to do with horse racing"  It had nothing to do with loads of things which along with horse racing also didn't need to be pointed out to us. We knew this. You not knowing this would point to you having some mental issue not anyone else.

800 so far today Friday with more to come today 1000 plus, Rachael from accounts said by 2029 immigrants will no longer be held in hotels, maybe true as they are now buying the hotels 2 so far this week been reported, so they would be  official immigration accommodation, and minister on question time last night told serious lies by stating that the majority on boats were children and women, there own stats dis prove that and he has not retracted the lies yet, that is what it’s now coming too blatant lies on tv so dozy ones will now believe that

Young men filled with spice, obese, women obese, all filled with chemicals from all kinds of products, habituall hooked on fast unhealthy foods.
Fertility rates through the floor with men firing blanks (Jaffas ;)) women unable to conceive.
Birth rate falling so bring in hoardes of young men (call them children to deflect attention) to get baby production up to prop up future pension contributions.

Starmer will muddle through the next few years because muddling through is what Starmer does. In that respect there isn't much difference between Starmer, Cameron, May and Sunak. None of them are/were fit to hold the Office of Prime Minister. There it is. On the other hand I'd place Farage (if he ever becomes PM) in the same box as Johnson and Truss. A trio of incompetents who would have been better suited to become stand up comedians rather than Prime Minister.

Interesting the Starmer muddling through line.

He's been in power a year. They're already started a mass house building program, new nuclear power station plus increased green energy, new prisons, ended the doctor/nurse strikes...

They've made a lot of mistakes but they're clearly trying to fix massive problems Tory's had no interest in

I don’t agree FOYLES.  To stop them, repel them, turn them back, whatever, would inevitably lead to conflict with France.

There’s only two ways it’ll be stopped.
Resurrect the RWANDA plan, ignore the courts, and send them on.
Get the Royal Navy out into La Manche and physically bully, intimidate, overwhelm and force the boats to turn around. Then deal with the French Navy when they object and face us up.  Neither will ever happen.

The present asylum system is being used and abused by many foreign applicants most of whom are economic migrants and not genuine asylum seekers. I'd advocate the application of every asylum seeker (except a young child) whose ID verification eg paper id; life history; journey to UK; etc, is inadequate or (suspiciously) dubious should be held/housed in a large vessel offshore in UK water but not on UK soil. The applicant must be held there until their application is processed, and appeals exhausted. This will be a major deterrent to any future potential Channel crosser or asylum seeker.

In Australia all foreign entrants into Australia without a valid visa or authorisation are subject to mandatory detention until they are either granted a visa or deported. This will weed out the genuine applicants and the economic ones.
