It has just popped into my head that there was a line in an old television series set in a Victorian-era hospital where matron explains the importance of class, conformation and pedigree... and that is why she is backing the Prince of Wales's runner in the Derby.

Phil Bull put me in the wrong direction years ago saying breeding the best to the best doesn't mean certain ability.  Strictly true but amazing how these 90-100 fillies do a helleva lot better than the 60 ones.
