Well done Chavman, I was there too. It beats 'under rules' hands down. There were good food trucks, things for kids to do good racing and a pleasant crowd. And its inexpensive - £5/pint.
The the last meeting in the area is at Kingston Blount on Sunday - are you going to come ? Its even better than Edgecote. Better racing, bigger fields, 10 books.
Doorman, which area are you ? Where did you go to yesterday, are you west country, Dulverton ?

I was At Edgecote too, had to leave before the last . A three runner race , El Capitane won its last 4 up against two rags rated 18lb worse. 1/6 was my price .1/5 would be a gift . Gutted when it won 1/4 by 25l ! Still won on the day , Britain at its best, No crime ,no bad language .no drunks . Great family day out.

Jimnast I am surprised to hear that, may you be forgiven for your sins... Its certainly worth making a visit, though I appreciate all points are not equal, so might be researching a good one before you go. Our area here is particularly strong and as a result of well watered ground we get good size fields and decent racing, whereas some courses which are unable to water suffer in regard to field sizes.
It is certainly a pleasant days racing, as it should be. Everyone friendly and not a fake tanned influencer to be seen. Everyone wears socks too !
Blunder, pleased another pt 2 pt goer from here enjoyed yesterday also. Are you a regular goer ?

Not many courses about in the North West. The only one I could think of in Lancashire was Gisburn, where the Dickinson family used to train. Just checked and it would seem that finished about 20 years ago. Aspatria in Cumbria the only other I can think of.

I will make a point of finding a fixture list as barstool pointed out I think we’re a bit short of them in the north west however I am use to travelling sounds like I’ve been missing out on some enjoyable days.
Good luck

oneten. was at Bratton Down ysdy, unfortunately our first of season on ground that can't be watered so few runners, next sun there duly cancelled but will be at Upcott Cross near Okehampton, Devon on Monday. A well watered course so should be fine racing there. Yes, live in Devon, the largest area so spoilt for choice November til Umberleigh in June. To anyone who fancies a hol in Devon and Cornwall in June, Umberleigh on Saturday 7th has a great end of season atmosphere, pony racing after ptp and music after that.

Doorman, that sounds good. Was it last year or the year before the Umberleigh mtng in cornwall was cancelled and everyone came up to KBlount and we had the end of season meeting there instead. You are right as it was a great crowd and we had a cracking days racing.
Do you ever venture up this way at all ?

Wow Isleham, that takes some doing !!! Quite an achievement as the season is only short. Did you go to so many because you were there in an official capacity, or just a keen spectator ? Did you have a favourite few ?
Horatio, yes I have been. Nice enough course. Honestly go, everything any of us used to enjoy about racing is there in pointing in spades. Its fun and unspoilt . We can all get dressed up to go to ascot, but for a nice fun day out go and try pointing, you can't beat it.

Can't remember Umberleigh not being last one unless it was covid years, certainly been back to normal since then. I have been to Kinston Blount, Woodford and Chaddesley Corbett of the ones out of our area.

Anyone on here would recognise a few good old warriors going round too. 2 Pipe horses down here at the moment, Duc De Beauchene won a few this season, Sidi Ismael entered mon and Switch Hitter for Nicholls was out earlier .

The Midland area was always strong (Dingley,Garthorpe etc) with the likes of Caroline Saunders but tye South East was my home patch which was dominated by Hacking and the Hickmans. They were great times and knowing the Form usually bet in 3 figures. It helped that I had a Company Car with free petrol !!

What a really pleasant thread to read. Have been quite a few times over the years and it really is a lovely day out. Cheers Chavman for starting the conversation.

It’s a great day out. You can get close to the horses, there is only one enclosure, the food is homemade or you can bring your own and there is often draught beer -but again you can bring your own. Try that at anywhere but Ponty. I know that the worst anyone on here ever does at the races is break even but I’d like to know if anyone wins at PTP. The overrounds are horrendous e.g at Sheriff Hutton a 4/6 shot beat a 1/2 shot. Only course in Yorkshire I don’t like is Hornby Castle as you can’t see much of the course due to the hill in the middle which you are no longer allowed to stand on -but I must be in minority as it is always rammed.
