Bold effort, but it didn't look as if she tried to get a breather in at any stage. Throwing the whip away didn't make any difference. That sort of strong gallop probably suited the favourite. They finished miles clear.

That was a great effort by horse and rider. Miss Nicholls may have went off too fast, as suggested, but that`s what put the favourite in serious trouble. Fav looked beat for a long time. Even when the winner eventually caught them and passed, the 2nd battled on gamely. Unlucky.

Derek O'Connor said afterwards the gallop suited his fella and he didn't want to get there too soon as the horse stops in front, which it did. Very hard though to criticise the second jockey though.
